Metro: Exodus RTX Videos Touch On Global Illumination And Performance

Metro: Exodus is the upcoming work of Deep Silver and 4A Games. Due out on February 22nd, 2019, the first-person shooter will hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One. While the latter platform will receive special Xbox One X enhancements, the former platform (PC) will see the threequel enhanced with NVIDIA RTX Ray Tracing on GeForce RTX graphics cards.

Back on July 3rd, 2018, we learned that Deep Silver Head of Global Brand Management, Huw Beynon, was featured in the 166 issue of Xbox Magazine (for August 2018). In the interview, he spoke on what 4A Games is currently doing with Exodus and the Xbox One X:

“Generally, 4A’s goal has been to wring every last ounce of whatever juice they can find from the hardware that they’re building for.”

Well, it seems that the company won’t be able to wring every last ounce of whatever juice they can find from the Xbox One X because they will try to push the graphical side of Exodus even further with NVIDIA RTX tech on PC.

According to a new video that NVIDIA released, Exodus will feature Ray Traced Global Illumination to illustrate improved natural lighting and Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion for the addition of better pixel shadow contact where objects occlude light.

The result of this tech brings more “immersive,” and “more realistic worlds,” with a graphical fidelity that was previously out of 4A Games’ reach.

In addition to the above, 4A Games can reflect natural lighting from the sun and moon properly to illuminate a place and have it affect the scene while the time of day changes.

Furthermore, devs also note that they can now render real-time Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion for the first time to calculate and display AO’s contact shadowing based on the geometry of place/scene.

Anyway, you can see all of the aforesaid below in the newly posted NVIDIA GeForce video:

As noted above, Metro: Exodus will release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 22nd, 2019.
