PlayStation Now Lets You Download PS2, PS4 Games To Play Offline

For those of you subscribed to PlayStation Now, you now have the ability to play PS2 and PS4 games in the local offline mode. This means that any of the games that you want to play without being forced to stream them online, you can download them to your local drive and continue to play them without being logged into the PlayStation Network, or without having to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription.

The news was rolled out over on the PlayStation Blog, where senior marketing manager at PlayStation Now, Brian Dunn, explained that not only will you be able to play your PS2 and PS4 games from PlayStation Now offline, but it also carries over to DLC and microtransactions as well…

“Downloaded PS Now games will support all user-purchased DLCs, microtransactions, and add-ons, as well as PS4 Pro enhancements for subscribers using a PS4 Pro system. And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus membership for online multiplayer on PS Now – which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games.”

You’ll also be able to transfer cloud saves to the local drive and continue to playing from where you last left off in your favorite game. However, you will need a PlayStation Plus membership subscription if you want to access your cloud saves on the local drive. A step-by-step guide video was also posted up to help you through the cloud save transfer process.

How To Transfer Cloud Saves From PS Now To PS4

If you’re hoping to subscribe, download hundreds of games and then cancel your subscription while you have a bunch of titles on your hard drive, think again. Dunn makes it known that every couple of days your PS4 will need to call home to keep the games active, which means that you will need a persistent PS Now subscription to make use of the offline mode. This is likely good for people with spotty net services or inconsistent connection rates who couldn’t make use of the streaming, but it’s not carte blanche to download and play the games all you want without dispensing a monthly fee.

And speaking of fees, you will have to pay $99.99 for a full year of service. It’s also $24.99 for a three-month pass during the summer discount. The three-month pass is regularly $44.99.

A lot of Sony fans were excited about this addition to PlayStation Now, but a few were still curious when PSN name changes were coming.
