The Culling: Origins Is Now Free To Play On PC Via Steam

Xaviant Director of Operations, Josh Van Veld, posted a couple of months ago that he and team wanted to get things right after the mess that was The Culling 2 failed. Taking things back to the Culling day 1 version, Xaviant has followed up on that move with a free-to-play announcement that is currently live for those who game on PC.

Back on July 21st, 2018, Xaviant released The Culling (not The Culling 2) as a playable build for PC via Steam. The actual day 1 version of the game — from way back in March of 2016 — was on the team’s “Reference servers.” Folks who owned The Culling on Steam could play The Culling: Day 1 Reference for free, where all owners of The Culling had access to the “Day 1 Reference” as a separate application in their Steam Library.

Well, two months later the battle royale game is now free-to-play and has a new name “The Culling: Origins.” There’s no telling what Xaviant will pull in the months to come, but you can find out what’s in store by hitting up a new blog post on its Steam page.

Anyway, you can check out the latest free-to-play launch trailer here:

“Battle Royale is back! The game that took the world by storm in 2016 has returned to its roots and is better than ever, not to mention free-to-play. With a whole host of improvements and new features, The Culling: Origins takes you back to the island where it all began… and asks whether you have the guts, brains, and skill required to survive.”

What we can take from the July Steam chart stats is that The Culling “24-hour peak” is 72 times higher than The Culling 2‘s “24-hour peak” of just one person. This also applies to its “playing 28 min ago” which tallies up to 48 players.

As of now, the September Steam chart stats “24-hour peak” stands at 1,351 players and the “playing 10 min ago” stats tally up to 1,312 players.

The numbers above aren’t all that great, but they’re better than last week’s number of zero. As of now, time will tell how gamers will take to The Culling: Origins. In the meantime, you can snag this game for free over on Steam.
