Corpse Party: Book Of Shadows Brings Gory Mystery To GOG.com, Steam

The gory horror-mystery game, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, recently found its way onto the Steam store and GOG.com courtesy of XSeed Games localizing MAGES Inc., and 5pb’s ongoing series of gory tales.

The game has launched on PC for $14.99 both on GOG.com and Steam, but during the launch week it’s discounted by 10% off on both stores, so you can get it for $13.49 instead.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is a follow-up to the original Corpse Party and the PC version in particular is an updated version based on the original PSP release, but with new HD art, full mouse support, and added point-and-click gameplay to help bring the murder-mystery experience of Book of Shadows to life in a way that only PC gamers could appreciate.

The game is considered a mid-quel, because it takes place before, during, and after the events of the orginal game. The store description contains tons of spoilers so if you’ve never played the first game you might want to do so before diving into Book of Shadows, otherwise you’ll be completely lost on some story elements.

Essentially, the game is a big what-if scenario, presenting players with an opportunity to canonically change events compared to how they played out in the original game.

The game explores the aftermath of what happened with the original events of Corpse Party, as well as how some of them are dealing with the trauma of certain deaths that took place within the halls and decrepit rooms of the Heavenly Host Elementary school.

The PC version of the game retains the original Japanese voiceovers, but with added binaural 3D audio implementation, along with an enhance “Darkening” system where the events that transpire degrade their mental fortitude, and additional collectibles, achievements, interviews, art stills, and music tracks being made available as well.

You can pick up a DRM-free copy from Steam, or a DRM-free copy from GOG.com.
