Light Fairytale, Classically-Themed 3D JRPG Enters Early Access On Steam

Neko.Works — not to be confused with Nekopara’s NEKO WORKS — announced that Light Fairytale is currently available right now on Steam for $9.99 as an Early Access title, with the first week enabling you to get your hands on the game for 10% off the normal price. The first episode is part of a multi-episode series and hearkens back to the days of 3D JRPGs with anime sequences and turn-based combat.

The story centers around the remnants of a civilization destroyed in a cataclysmic event. After the survivors fled underground to live out their days, thousands of years passed and soon the world above ground became forgotten. That is, until one day a young boy named Haru dreams of what the top-side of the planet is like and embarks on a great adventure to see what lies above.

Haru will be joined by a companion named Kuroko, who helps Haru out in battle thanks to her penchant for all things technology.

The duo will have to navigate their way through the city while helping a mysterious girl and out-witting and staying one step ahead of the imperial forces that keep the city in a state of dystopia.

Light Fairytale features anime cinematics, along with classic 3D isometric travel and turn-based combat. You might notice that the game has a lot of visual similarities to the original Legend of Dragoon and Final Fantasy VII.

Obviously if you enjoyed the visual art-styles of those games you’ll feel right at home with Light Fairytale.

The game has been in development for the last two years after Neko.Works attempted to get the game crowdfunded through Kickstarter back in 2016.

After running into some troubles with getting the game crowdfunded, Neko got back to work on finishing it regardless of the lack of funding from Kickstarter.

The full version of the game is expected to be finished within three months. So it won’t be one of those DayZ or Rust situations where the game will stay stuck in Early Access for half a decade (hopefully). The full version will include a New Game+, more events, new battle options, new items, more mini-games, and the ability to play the game as Kuroko instead of Haru.

You can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store page.
