Splatoon 2 Is Partially Playable On Yuzu Nintendo Switch Emulator

Developers are making headway with emulation for the Nintendo Switch. There’s a new video up showing the progress the latest build of the Yuzu emulator has made when it comes to running popular first-party games like Splatoon 2.

The game has some serious graphics glitches and errors preventing it from being fully playable, but the team did manage to raise compatibility to the point where they have managed to get Splatoon 2 to run anywhere between 30fps and 60fps on a high-end rig.

However, none of the in-game text nor the textures work for the environments properly. However, the characters do pop up properly and you can customize your squid kid without any problems, as demonstrated in the video below from YouTuber MasterKilla.

Most of the core geometry and some of the static 2D image files display properly, which is demonstrated with the tutorial phase where we see the Switch Pro controller at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Objective markers also appear properly in-game, even though the objectives themselves may not appear properly.

The emulator sadly lacks gyroscopic and accelerometer controls, so it’s not possible to fully play through the game yet. The shader cache also isn’t pre-loaded, which is why none of the shaders are working properly.

You can play a bunch of Nintendo Switch games through the Yuzu emulator between 15fps and 20fps on average (or in the case of Splatoon 2, between 30fps and 60fps) if you at least have an i7 6700K, a GTX 1070, and 16GB of RAM.

You can download the Yuzu emulator right now from over on the official Yuzu website. Nintendo hasn’t taken too kindly to this kind of news and has been attempting to shut down ROM and ISO sites carrying Switch games, but you can’t stop the pirates from pirating.
