Two years ago the game Syren popped onto the scene with a trailer promoting the release on VR devices such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Fast forward by two years and now the game is set to arrive on the PlayStation VR for the PS4. The game features two playable episodes themed around the progressively difficult gameplay set within the survival-horror genre.
Players take on the role of a character who is in a lab where a mad doctor has been attempting to perfect eugenics in order to revive the syrens. However, some of his female experiments managed to get loose and run amok within the aquatic lab. These aren’t your daddy’s mermaids, though. They’re fast, they’re angry, and they’re dangerous.
The first episode is themed around figuring how everything went up in smoke and attempt to escape from the lab before the reactor blows. This includes solving puzzles, exploring the environment, and playing hide and seek with the syrens.
You can check out the gameplay trailer below to get an idea of what it’s like.
As you can see, the second episode is a lot more action packed than the first.
Once you get your bearings, understand what’s going on and how to finally fight back after scrounging up some courage, finding a weapon and shooting down any of the syrens that attempt to come after you.
There are a variety of different weapons you find throughout the lab in order to fight back against the monsters, including pistols, machine guns, and shotguns.
The game supposedly has partial nudity in it but I wonder if Hammerhead Studios would be forced to change that in light of Sony’s new censorship policies for the PS4?
Anyway, you’ll be able to get your hands on Syren‘s two episodes for the PlayStation VR and other VR headsets. For more info, feel free to visit the official website.
