Ashen Is A Timed Exclusive On Epic Games Store, Will Eventually Come To Steam

A lot of gamers who have been waiting for the release of Ashen on PC and Xbox One. After its re-debut at The Game Awards on December 6th, Ashen was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC. However, this isn’t the end of the story for everyone who had wishlisted the game on Steam.

You may have noticed that the Steam store page is still up for Ashen, but the release date is now labeled as “TBD”, as in To Be Determined. That’s because according to Derek Bradley the game director, the exclusive release on the Epic Games Store is temporary and the game will be coming to other PC storefronts in the near future. In a post published on December 7th, 2018, a day after the news dropped about the game’s availability on the Epic Games Store, Derek explained in a short news post…

“Right now you can play Ashen on all the hardware we have promised since day one. We know that is not enough for everyone. We will be coming to other platforms in the future. If you must wait for those, we totally understand. We are super proud of the game and hope you will enjoy it whenever and wherever you play it.”

The game will be available for Windows 10 systems on the Microsoft Store, and they will also eventually launch Ashen on Steam for PC as well.

So no, the game is not going to be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Hopefully this will quell some of the rage taking place in the Steam forums at the moment.

Most timed exclusive deals last for anywhere between six months to a year. But then again, Epic has been doing some things differently than other studios, so they may have even shortened it to a couple of months. I’m sure Derek will update the community once the game is ready to hit the other platforms.

A couple of other games are also getting some special treatment on the Epic Games Store as well, including Genesis Alpha One and Satisfactory, as noted by DSO Gaming.

However, to say that they won’t be coming to Steam seems a little premature at this point because I’m sure they, too, will be timed exclusives both to help gain some exposure as indie titles and help give Epic Games a little bit of a noteworthy jump start in the competitive digital distribution field.
