Control Story Trailer Explores Exotic Worlds Within A Brutalist Environment

Remedy Entertainment released a new trailer for Control, the upcoming third-person shooter for home consoles and PC. The trailer focuses on the story and the Oldest House.

The trailer is narrated by Max Payne’s James Mccaffrey, who explains that the brutalist skyscraper known as the “Oldest House” is home to some of the world’s most bizarre phenomenon. We get images of the inside of the structure, which looks like if a European museum was converted into a Soviet Union prison, and was then deconstructed into a secret enforcement agency. You can check out the trailer below to get a glimpse at it.

While it originally only depicts scenarios themed around concrete offices and large auditoriums surrounded by intimidating gray slabs, later on in the trailer we begin to see some 2001: A Space Odyssey influences as the more extra-dimensional elements begin to come into play.

This is evident with one scene depicting an excavation site with a bunch of monolithic black slabs in what looks like some kind of ancient, alien portal.

Within the game, it’s explained that some of the containment rooms that house ancient runes open portals or gateways to other worlds, and this creates cross-dimensional thresholds where you see these other worlds bleeding into the Oldest House. It reminds me a little bit of the movie Annihilation.

Control - Threshold

Throughout the trailer we we see some interesting scenarios and get glimpses of the enemies that players will be battling against known as the Hiss.

These creatures appear to be multi-limb beings that can defy gravity and manipulate the boundaries of reality.

The gunplay looks good from what they’ve showcased so far, but the enemy AI leaves a heck of a lot to be desired. The environment is fascinating and the concept of having a bureau that controls supernatural entities is pretty rad; it reminds me a lot of Cabin In The Woods. I just hope the gameplay lives up to the story concepts, because it could be good. However, in today’s radicalized society controlled by extreme Leftists, I’m not holding out too much hope, but it would be nice to be proven wrong.
