Iron Harvest Alpha 2 Update Improves AI, Adds New RTS Functions, Five New Mechs

King Art games announced that the multiplayer alpha for Iron Harvest, the World War I alternate history real-time strategy game, has become available for everyone who backed the game on Kickstarter at $55 or more.

The game managed to accrue more than $1.2 million in crowdfunding over on Kickstarter, and a lot of that had to do with the fact that it’s a completely different kind of RTS game that actually takes real-life geo-historical elements from World War I, but turns them on their head by adding in mechs.

If DICE had taken this route with Battlefield V maybe they wouldn’t be treading over the precipice of brokeness, but instead they tried to rewrite history and they got called on it.

In the case of Iron Harvest, you can download the second alpha build right now, which features new modes, new maps, and new content for backers. You can get a glimpse of it in action with the new gameplay video below.

The gameplay clip showcases some of the new gameplay and enhancements present in the latest alpha build, which includes the new heavy machine gun and five brand new mechs to man.

The gameplay is very similar to the sort of resource management and tactical awareness that was present in games like Company of Heroes.

To make the game more intense and the combat more organic, features like melee combat, order queues, retreating, and cover fire have all been added to the game, along with a more streamlined user interface.

Even based on what is present in the alpha build, the game looks exceptionally good. The art-style also reminds me a lot of 11-Bit Studios’ Frostpunk, just without the winter apocalypse motif.

There’s definitely a strong Eastern European flavor to the aesthetic of the mechs, which are themed around a lot of technology that burgeoned out of the industrial revolution.

If you’re interested in learning more about the alternate history World War I RTS, you can pay a kind visit to King Art Games’ official website. Iron Harvest is set to release for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2019.
