Romero Games Announces Free Doom Wad Sigil, Slated To Release Mid-February 2019

John Romero and Romero Games teased on December 9th that something special was in store for fans come December 10th regarding the original 1993 DOOM in celebration for said game’s 25 years of existence. Well, the 10th has arrived bringing news of a free “megawad” named Sigil for folks who own the original PC version and the Ultimate Doom version.

That’s right, Romero has announced Sigil (which is not out yet) over on romerogames.ie. Containing nine single-player and nine deathmatch levels, the free megawad will be released in mid- February 2019.

On release, players must own either the original 1993 registered version of Doom or other versions of the classic game to play Sigil.

As for Sigil itself, the megawad is the spiritual successor to the fourth episode of Doom and picks up where the original left off. The wad also features music from artist Buckethead as heard in the announcement trailer below.

“SIGILTM is a free megawad for the original 1993 DOOM® created by John Romero. It contains nine single-player and nine deathmatch levels. The free megawad will be released in mid- February 2019 and requires players own the original 1993 registered version of DOOM® in order to play. SIGILTM is the spiritual successor to the fourth episode of DOOM®, and picks up where the original left off.”

Although I, myself, do not promote pre-ordering, the wad set to release early next year has two versions that you can pre-order right now. The two versions happen to be the “SIGIL Standard Edition Box PC Megawad” which runs for $39.99 and the “SIGIL Beast Box PC Megawad” retailing for $166.00.
