The Steam Awards 2018 Nominees Have Been Listed, Winners Will Be Announced Early 2019

Whether The Steam Awards is relevant to you or not, do know that the finalists for The Steam Awards 2018 have been listed. Voting will open on December 20th — kicking off the start off the 12th annual Steam Winter Sale — where voting closes on January 3rd, 2019, followed by the announcement of the winners early February 2019.

Although I don’t take any game awards or mainstream events seriously, however, if you do you can place your votes for one of the following categories to win said award on December 20th. Right now, the nominees are in place, with the first category “Game of the year”, being displayed on and the nominees can be seen below:

Nominees for Game of the Year

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • HITMAN 2
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

On the heels of the overhyped PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, Capcom’s MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD, Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance, HITMAN 2 and woke Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the glorified tech demos known as VR games. The “VR Game of the Year” nominees consist of the following:

Nominees for VR Game of the Year

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR
  • VRChat
  • Beat Saber
  • Fallout 4 VR

Of course, they had to put their shekel making games in there for the nominees regarding the “Labor of Love” award with Grand Theft Auto V, because we all know how loud microtransactions speak. Anyway, you can check out the rest of the nominees below:

  • Stardew Valley

The list of categories also includes “Best Environment,” with nominees as depicted below:

There also happens to be a category named “Better with Friends” sporting Esports meme games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege accompanied by the following:

  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
  • PAYDAY 2

If EA and DICE’s Battlefield V was on Steam and there was a category named the “Worst revised history propaganda game” Battlefield V would snag the top spot. Anyway, the disturbing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, followed by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Hearts of Iron IV, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, and Fallout 4 happen to be under “Best Alternate History.”

Nominees for Best Alternate History

  • Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Hearts of Iron IV
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization® VI
  • Fallout 4

Joining Platinum Games’ NieR: Automata on “Most fun with a Machine” comes that of Euro Truck Simulator 2, Rocket League, Factorio, and Space Engineers:

Nominees for Most Fun with a Machine

  • Euro Truck Simulator 2
  • Rocket League
  • NieR: Automata
  • Factorio
  • Space Engineers

I’m trying to figure out how Bethesda is on this list when its not a developer. Bethesda/Bethesda Softworks is a publisher, Bethesda Game Studios is a developer and can’t develop worth crap — hence Fallout 76. The rest of the list has me worried given that Ubisoft made it on and we all know how Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V are its favorite buttons:

Nominees for Best Developer

  • Ubisoft
  • Bethesda
  • Rockstar Games
  • Digital Extremes Ltd.
  • Square Enix
  • Capcom
  • Paradox Interactive
  • BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment
  • Klei
