Spike Chunsoft’s Conception Plus is gearing up for release on the PlayStation 4 on January 31st, 2019 in Japan. There’s a free demo of the RPG available in Chinese or Japanese over on the PlayStation Store. The remake of the 2012 PSP classic will be coming out with all new graphics, upgraded playability, a brand new shrine maiden, and censorship.
According to an article on Famitsu that was published on January 21st, 2019, Conception Plus: Give Birth To My Child for the PlayStation 4 will remove the original Touch Communication mode from the other iterations of the game. The article states…
“The Touch Communication feature has been deleted for various reasons.
“During the middle of conversations with the Shrine Maiden, their body could be touched and felt using the ‘Touch Communication’ feature. Just like the PSP version, there were plans to implement the mode. Regrettably, it was ultimately removed.
“We apologize for those who were anticipating [the feature]. We will continue to attempt to implement the feature.”
It obviously has nothing to do with the tech since the tech already exists, and has been a common staple in the series, even on the Nintendo 3DS versions of the game, as demonstrated in the video below from justonegamr for Concetion II.
Take note that there was no actual nudity in the mode.
What’s more is that back on November 28th, 2018 Gematsu published an article showcasing screenshots and detailed functionality of the Touch Communication feature, which was already implemented into the latest build of the PS4 version of the game. So as the statements from Famitsu note, the mode was deleted.
It doesn’t take much to figure out that this was likely due to Sony’s censorship policies.
Marvelous Entertainment has also been barred from including the “Intimacy Mode” for Senran Kagura games on the PS4, which was an identical mode to the Touch Communication mode in Conception. The major difference was that in Conception you had to unlock the mode by raising your affinity with specific Shrine Maidens, which would then unlock the mini-game where you could touch the girls over certain parts of their body.
Sony has basically required developers to remove modes such as this on the PS4, and if they don’t, then the game is not allowed to release on the platform, which is what happened to Omega Labyrinth Z, in which Sony forbade PQube from distributing the game in the West.
What’s kind of odd is that the Ceremony Power-Ups in Conception Plus have been retained. These ceremonies showcase the girls glowing and nude as you raise your affinity to the max with them.
It’s kind of shocking that Sony would still allow this feature on the system but remove the Touch Communication.
Nevertheless, the game is only releasing in Japan so it has nothing to do with Western ratings boards or content regulations.
You can look for the censored version of Conception Plus to release in Japan on January 31st, 2019 on the PS4.
