Square Enix’s highly anticipated release of Kingdom Hearts 3 is currently up and out for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game is supposed to be the conclusion of Sora’s story since it began way back in 2002 on the PS2. There is an in-depth Kingdom Hearts 3 gameplay walkthrough available that covers the game from start to finish.
The game starts with a lengthy cinematic recapping some of the momeents throughout each of the games and the villains that have stood in the way, as well as the heroes that have attempted to stop them.
When you start a new game you have the option of choosing the difficulty before you get going. The harder the difficulty the closer to the true ending you’ll get.
Beginner Mode is actually the hardest mode to unlock the true ending because you have to go through some extra steps to unlock the secret ending by finding a lot of Mickey symbols and taking pictures of them around the game world. On Proud Mode you only have to find a few of the symbols to unlock the true ending and the secret ending movie.
Now if you can’t speak Japanese and you need help with the English rendition of the game, JohneAwesome has a multi-video walkthrough as well, which you can check out below.
Like any other game, the left analog is to move, the right analog is to change the camera.
Press ‘Circle’ on the DualShock 4 to jump, which is ‘B’ on the Xbox One controller.
You can select and interact with things by pressing ‘Triangle’ on the DualShock or ‘Y’ on the Xbox One controller.
After a short cinematic, you’ll be able to choose your starting stats based on the memories of the older games.
At first you’ll be able to choose from Wisdom, Vitality, or Balance.
Next up, you’ll be able to choose from Mystic, Warrior, or Guardian.
Kingdom Heart 3 Controls: How To Play
Next up is the combat.
You can attack enemies in real-time using the ‘X’ button on the DualShock 4 or the ‘A’ button on the Xbox One controller. If you keep rapidly tapping the attack button you’ll chain together combos. The longer your combo the higher the chance you’ll be able to pull off a devastating combo finisher.
You can block or evade attacks by pressing the Square button on the DualShock 4 or the ‘X’ button on the Xbox One controller.
If you tilt the left analog left or right while tapping the block button, he will evade out of the way.
When fighting multiple opponents and you need to lock onto a specific target, tap the right bumper to lock onto a target. You can cycle through different targets by tapping the right trigger.
You’ll have to fight Darkside from previous Kingdom Hearts games, and once you defeat him another cinematic will play and Sora will be told that since he lost a lot of his power and nearly became a vessel for Xehanort, he would have to regain his power by visiting Hercules to find out what he would have to do to regain his lost abilities.
Kingdom Hearts 3 – How To Cast Magic
Sora, Goofy, and Donald arrive at Olympus in search of Hercules, but Hades has launched an all-out assault on Olympus.
When Sora and the gang reach Olympus, there are a few more tutorials to help acclimate your skills to the world.
This includes being able to utilize magic. Magic spells can be selected using the digital pad. You can select different magic abilities from the command menu.
Once you’ve highlighted a spell, press ‘X’ on the PS4 controller, or ‘A’ on the Xbox controller to cast the spell.
Magic spells will cost you MP, and you can quickly assign different spells to the digital pad using the “Customize Menu” from the options screen.
Inside the menu you’re able to change the equipment for the three main characters, modify your abilities; equip, swap or change your items, view your stats, check out the game help for more tutorials, or customize the menus and the AI behavior of your teammates.
Kingdom Hearts 3 – Flowmotion
Once you defeat the enemies, run up the wall by literally just running into it and then scaling up the platform.
Another cinematic will play featuring Hades, voiced by James Wood. Surprisingly, the Conservative puts in a serious performance, unlike most Liberal actors.
Anyway, once the cinematic ends you’ll be able to save your game at the Moogle save point, and then another cinematic plays.
When that cinematic ends you’ll finally learn how to utilize one of the game’s new features; Flowmotion.
During combat, jump up in the air and tilt the left analog stick while pressing the evade button (Square on the PS4 or ‘X’ on the Xbox) and Sora will air-slide toward poles.
You can also use flowmotion to travel far distances using the ability. Pressing ‘X’ while in flowmotion will also unleash a devastating attack.
There’s a quick cinematic involving Meg, but Hercules tells her to go get safe, and instead of being a third-wave feminists, she actually listens to him and goes to get safe, which is a rarity in today’s world of gaming. However, this is made by the Japanese and unlike Westerners they actually value femininity.
Kingdom Hearts 3 – Team Attacks
After rescuing the little girl by getting chucked across Thebes on a giant Hercules statue, you’ll need to fight a few more heartless and then learn how to use Team Attacks.
So the way it works is that you can perform a team attack if the team attack command bar turns green. You can use this move by pressing Triangle on the DualShock or ‘Y’ from the Xbox controller when it’s available to use.
In this particular case, using the Trinity Sled to make your way through the fiery areas and glide down where the heartless are located to rescue some of the citizens of Thebes.
You’ll need to make your way through the city and defeat the heartless while rescuing civilians. You’ll earn potions for your efforts.
Rescue the valley girl chick on top of the pillar and then proceed down the Big Olive and fight your way across the hot fiery pit. You can actually air fight, and then move the left analog back toward the wall to avoid falling into the pit.
Head to the central clearing and save the mother and her little girl on your way toward Mt. Olympus.
Go into the building and you’ll need to kill all the heartless within three minutes. Work fast and don’t play around because even if you’re serious and don’t mess up at all, you’ll only have 40 seconds left on the clock.
Following another short cinematic There’s a mini-boss you have to fight and you can also gain access to Attractions for the first time. You’ll be able to use the Pirate Ship for the first time.
Once the mini-boss is defeated head into the next sequence on your way up to Mt. Olympus by fighting the water heartless and scaling up the rocky cliff faces.
You’ll eventually have to race up the cliff face and dodge some rocks from a rock titan as a way to reach the top and fight the boss.
Fight through the heartless, follow the path up the cliff and when you reach the top you’ll need to fight the feet of the rock titan.
After you damage his feet the titan will get stunned. Jump up on his body and attack his head. Stay within the view of his head because if you jump over his neck and into a crevice you can most certainly get stuck. The only way to get out is to use a special team move.
Once the boss is defeated head up through the cave and break through the cave.
YouTuber MKIceandFire picks up where Johne leaves off.
Realm of the Gods
There’s an impressive cinematic sequence where Sora arrives at Mt. Olympus finally, but he has to battle a literal horde of rampaging heartless.
The trick is to stay out of the way and avoid being trampled by them.
After defeating them you’ll unlock the ability to make use of the shotlock commands.
Shotlock allows you to lock onto multiple foes or a single foe and fire multiple projectiles at said foe.
To use the shotlock ability, simply hold down the right bumper and move the left or right analog over to the enemy of your choice and then press the ‘A’ button on the Xbox controller or ‘X’ on the DualShock 4 to unleash the shotlock attack.
As you unlock additional Keyblades throughout the game you’ll gain access to more shotlock commands and abilities.
Make your way up to the top of the pantheon until you reach Herclues.
