Born Punk Rockets Past The Kickstarter Goal In Just 24 Hours
Born Punk

The point-and-click, cyberpunk adventure game, Born Punk, managed to jettison past its Kickstarter goal within the span of just 24 hours. The game was originally inducted into the Kickstarter crowdfunding circle with a modest goal of just $9,900. However, it managed to reach its goal within 24 hours and has gone on to $16,562 as of the writing of this article.

The game was initially announced back in late January and the Kickstarter was set to go live on February 5th.

The description for the game is that players take on the role of a chick who goes out to party one night and then she gets home one night and finds out that she can’t properly recover from a hangover. It turns out that she has a rampant AI lodged in her brain and it’s degenerative.

The AI begins to leak into her brain Johnny Mnemonic-style, and it’s up to players to find out where the AI came from, how it got into her head, and what it wants before her sanity gets melted into a stew of brain goo. The developers, Insert Disk 22, are an indie group headed up by the creator of Top Hats and Champagne YouTube channel.

It was originally mentioned that they wanted to create a game where the lead female character wasn’t a typical, SJW-oriented “strong independent woman who don’t need no man”, which has become the staple of nearly all major female leads in movies and games these days, from the new Star Wars trilogy to Horizon: Zero Dawn.

The design of the game is basically hearkening back to the old-school digital point-and-click era when LucasArts was making groundbreaking games like Full Throttle and Revolution Software was turning heads with the visually captivating and sveltely-named Beneath A Steel Sky.

For fans of the critical thinking adventure genre that was oftentimes spearheaded by Sierra Interactive back when Sonic wasn’t furry-courting degenrate and Mario had a live-action movie, Born Punk is the sort of game that’s aiming to quench your thirst for cyberpunk nostalgia.

The title is still a long ways out from release, but Insert Disk 22 is hoping to get a playable version up and out by January, 2020 next year.

They’re currently targeting a release on the Xbox One, PS4, PC, Linux, Mac, and Nintendo Switch.
