THQ Nordic and Feld Entertainment announced that Monster Jam Steel Titans will release on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC starting June 25th, 2019 later this year during the summer. Xbox One X owners will also be able to make use of graphical enhancements to make beautify the game with improved performance and resolution. The game has already become available for pre-order, along with receiving a new gameplay trailer to highlight some of the features and the physics.
The news comes on the eve of the Monster Jam World Finals, with THQ trying to tie video games into the extreme motorsports culture. The game will feature a full career mode, multiple stadiums, fan-favorite trucks, stunts, bumps, car crushes and more. The game is scheduled to release for $29.99 on PC and $39.99 on home consoles.
You can check out the gameplay trailer below to get an idea of what you can look forward to from the upcoming off-road racer.
The trailer’s locked frame-rate isn’t terribly impressive, and does little to build confidence. The 30fps clips fused with the choppy movement and limited gameplay is pretty awful.
There are two things worth noting, however. The first is that the physics seem to be easy going enough, and this is not a simulation racer where the monster trucks are hard to handle and they tip over and break as easily as the ones in real life. Second, it appears as if you can pull off stunts, recover from rollovers and make turns relatively easy, so it seems like it’s definitely targeting pick-up-and-play casual users rather than the hardcore sim fans. And, just to be clear, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Now, the users on the YouTube video were not impressed with the trailer at all, and I can definitely see why. This is not to say that they aren’t looking forward to the game, because they definitely are. They just didn’t like the way THQ Nordic put the trailer together because it didn’t show the game off in a very flattering way.
