Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster Potentially Outed By European Rating

We know that a new Call of Duty game is hitting store shelves later this year because the world still exists, but it looks like we might also be seeing a blast from the past as a PEGI rating for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered  mysteriously popped up and then disappeared for the PlayStation 4.

This news comes to us from the team at Gematsu, who linked to the unexpected posting over on the PEGI website that has since vanished into thin air. As noted in the original post, this is the first time we’re hearing about such a game and what makes this doubly interesting is the fact that we still don’t know what the game in the mainline series will actually be this year.

If you think about it, though, this all makes perfect sense. For starters, the original Modern Warfare was remastered a couple of years ago as an add-on for the future-based Infinite Warfare. The core game received the cold shoulder from many fans that had no interest in following the Call of Duty series into the stars, but the remaster was well received. And, hey, it’s available starting next week as part of PlayStation Plus, so feel free to add it to your digital collection. As for Modern Warfare 2, this is the game’s tenth anniversary, which makes for pretty perfect timing.

Another thing to keep in mind is that these kinds of accidental postings happen pretty frequently and they’re almost always accurate. Why would PEGI accidentally post a premature rating for a game that doesn’t exist, right? So I’m feeling pretty confident that MW2 will be getting a remaster this year, but the question is whether or not Activision will shoot themselves in the foot again by attaching it to a core series game.

This year’s Call of Duty is being made by Infinity Ward, though, and people are already speculating that their entry will be Modern Warfare 4. So since folks would actually likely want to pick that game up, maybe packaging MW2 with it will go over much better this time around.

Now for the big question: Will they leave the controversial “No Russian” mission unchanged all these years later?
