Bandai Namco and Ganbarion’s One Piece: World Seeker for the PS4, Xbox One, and on Steam for PC is available for gamers who enjoy venturing through giant open world’s as Shonen’s favorite pirate. The game allows you to take control of Luffy and run through an island world, leveling up your skills, traversing through the city, battling enemies, and stretching around like a Japanese version of Spider-Man.
For gamers interested in getting a hang of the basics, a gameplay walkthrough is currently available from YouTuber PlayGames. You can check out the full playlist below.
The game starts with Monkey D. Luffy in handcuffs being taken to prison while the Straw Hat pirates attempt to break into the vault and steal the treasure from the sky prison base.
It turns out that there’s no treasure in the base, however, and that Luffy let himself get captured in hopes of his teammates getting their hands on the treasure. But it was all a trap.
Luffy and the Straw Hat gang manage to escape from the floating castle while Luffy jumps to the ocean below.
After Luffy washes ashore the game finally gets underway and starts to put control in to the hands of players.
Jeanne manages to save Luffy after he washes ashore.
One Piece World Seeker Controls
The game gives you a basic tutorial of how to navigate the world and read the mini-map, letting you know that missions are located on the map as small blue triangles.
As you complete missions and explore more of the island new areas will unlock and open up for you to visit.
You can control the camera with the right analog stick, or press in the right analog to reset the camera.
You can run using the left analog and press in the left analog stick to sprint.
Press Square on the DualShock 4, or ‘X’ on the Xbox One controller to perform melee attacks. Rapidly tapping the melee button will allow you to perform a combo.
If you manage to sneak up on an enemy that hasn’t spotted you and you press the melee button, you can do a stealth takedown without alerting them or engaging in a fight.
Press X on the DualShock 4 to jump or ‘A’ on the Xbox One controller to jump. Double tapping the jump button will allow you to perform a double jump
You can pick up items on the ground by pressing the Triangle button on the DualShock 4, or ‘Y’ on the Xbox One controller. Items will also appear on your mini-map so you can see where they are and pick them up.
You can quickly make your way through the environment by using Luffy’s grapple function, which works very similar to Spider-Man’s web-slinging. To grapple and hook onto objects or vertical ledges, simply look up and press the right bumper at the place where you’re aiming to stretch-sling to the location.
You can dodge enemy attacks by pressing the Circle button on the PS4 DualShock or the ‘B’ button on the Xbox One controller. Tilting the analog left or right will dodge in that direction.
You can also enter into observation mode by holding down both the left and right bumper together. This will allow you to detect enemies through walls. However, it will drain the meter in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
Hold down the right trigger to enter into ranged attack mode. You can manually target enemy body parts while holding down the right trigger. Hitting an enemy in the head with a ranged attack will cause a critical hit, dealing additional damage.
Follow the navpoint on the screen past the guard tower to reach the Anti-Navy Gordon to trigger a short dialogue sequence.
Chapter 1: Find Chopper
After talking with Gordon your next mission will be to reach the church and find Chopper.
The blue navpoint will be on the screen. Simply follow it to to the church’s location.
You’ll need to fight some soldiers and then make your way into the naval base.
You can either stealthily take down the bad guys or you can take them down by facing them head on.
Once the enemies are defeated go to the silo door and hold down Triangle on the DualShock or ‘Y’ on the Xbox One controller to free Chopper.
Once you join up with Chopper, you’ll receive the next main mission, which is to meet up with Jeanne.
You’ll also learn about how to make use of the skill system in One Piece: World Seeker
As you acquire SP you can apply it to different skills and upgrade Luffy’s abilities across the Battle category, the Armament Haki, Exploration, and Parameters.
Chapter 2: Amber Pirates.
Talk to Jeanne at the town square and then make your way to Amber Harbor.
Unfortunately you can’t stretch-sling up rocks, but you can stretch-sling across the treetops and buildings, which can help you traverse the open-world quickly.
Inside the harbor there are various ruffians.
You’ll need to find Thousand Sunny and talk to Chopper once you get inside. You’ll need to take out the guards roaming around the harbor. If you use the rooftops you can take out the patrols with ease.
Head to the far northwest side of the Amber Heard dock to talk to Chopper.
You’ll find him at the dock near the boat.
You’ll then have to find the injured pirate.
Proceed into the underground cave beneath the harbor to collect some items and then head back up after exploring the underground area and talk to Chopper.
If you move toward the southern part of the harbor you’ll find the injured pirate.
Talk to the group of pirates and you’ll learn about the different modes as well.
Press down on the digital pad to change your modes. You can also use special Haki modes with Circle on the DualShock or ‘B’ on the Xbox One after switching the mode styles.
Once you get done defeating the pirates, head back to the Sunny at the docks and talk to Chopper.
Once you complete the quest you will be given a new mission to find robin
Chapter 3: Devil Fruit User
You’ll need to make your way north to Jade Bridge.
Talk to the male islander before you head to the Jade Bridge if you want to perform a quick side mission. You’ll need to acquire two mini-express shrimp.
Alternatively you can just keep moving north toward the Jade Bridge past the pirate patrols.
You can cut through Sapphire Town to get to the bridge, just move through the gate, exit through the east entrance, kill the guards, and proceed through the navy checkpoint.
The pathway will then take you to the Jade Bridge.
You’ll also learn how to make use of barrels to sneak around in, just like Metal Gear Solid. Go over to any barrel and press Triangle (or ‘Y’ on the Xbox One controller) to hide in the barrel.
Get inside the barrel and sneak past the guards to avoid being spotted, since it’s a stealth mission.
It’s a lengthy segment because you have to wait for the guards to turn their backs. However, keep in mind that the barrels have a limited life span and the more you walk around in the barrel the more it’ll break, so work fast… but not too fast.
When you get into the base go up to the designated door and hold down the interaction button. It will trigger a cinematic where you’ll have to face off against Smoker in a boss fight.
You’ll also learn how to use the enemy lock-on feature by pressing left or right on the digital pad to target an enemy and then pressing in the right thumbstick to lock onto them.
You can also utilize a Tension attack by building up the meter and then pressing the left bumper.
Chapter 4: Steel City
You’ll need to make your way to Steel City. First go talk to the female islander for a short side-quest to collect some small shells if you want to earn some extra experience and quest rewards.
Proceed through the pathway and make your way toward the the large metropolis. You’ll need to pass through Emery Plaza while heading eastward toward Steel City.
There’s another side-quest mission available in Emery Plaza in case you wanted to take it on.
Once you reach the city entrance you’ll need to gather info. You’ll also unlock fast travel points of interest, which will appear as yellow dots on the map.
Once inside Steel City, go talk to the NPCs who will direct you to the center plaza. Go near the man in the yellow suit and the fat black woman by the bridge and talk to the NPCs to learn more about the Warden.
Make your way further into the city and beat up the guards, and then another cinematic will play where Luffy will talk to an old granny and must meet up with Jill to talk to her about the missing Straw Hat Pirate members.
Chapter 5: Mystery Woman
The next quest is to meet Jill in the Steel City Plaza.
You’ll need to cross the bridge into the inner city past the giant dragon-lined gate.
Jill is the fashionable coquette near Jeanne by the plaza statue.
You’ll need to find out what happened to Nami, and it’s possible to do so by visiting the nearby naval base and eavesdropping on the soldiers.
Make your way back across the bridge and toward the far southeast side of the map into the base.
You can potentially try to stealth your way through the area, but the guards aren’t too difficult to defeat. Simply clear them out and head into the white area of the map market to trigger a cinematic where the guards will say that a woman with orange hair stole certain items and headed into the slums.
Make your way back into the city toward the slums in the southwest corner of the city.
In the slums, you’ll find some guards roughing up a man. Beat up the guards and then make your way back to the back to the downtown area to find Nami.
Nami can be found in the plaza hanging out behind a shop. Get close to trigger a cutscene.
After a lengthy dialogue sequence, you’ll need to go back to the slums to find Jeanne who will encounter a pirate named Piranha.
Defeat Piranha and his cronies and it will trigger another cinematic.
Chapter 6: Straw Hats United
The game will introduce you to the Karma system after completing the mission. The Karma system is no different the affinity systems in most other dating sims or romance visual novels. The more you complete certain tasks for certain characters the higher your Karma will be.
Maxing out the Karma for a certain character will unlock a special scene between Luffy and that character.
The next mission is to rescue Franky from the Sea Prison, which will require you to travel a kilometer all the way to the southeast corner of the map.
