Sakura Tempest, R18+ Yaoi Visual Novel Set In High School Gets Indefinitely Delayed By Valve
Sakura Tempest

We finally have a visual novel that is testing Valve’s application of consistency when it comes to upholding their policy on “child exploitation”. We’ve seen a number of games featuring sexy anime girls get banned from Steam for being set in high school, academies, or even college, but most yaoi games and furry games have sailed through without a problem. Well, this time D-KET’s Sakura Tempest, an R18+ yaoi visual novel dating simulator set in a Japanese high school, has been held up for review by Valve.

The release date was originally set for March 18th, 2019, but according to a post from D-KET, Valve is currently reviewing the game and they haven’t heard back yet. Usually Valve outright bans anime games set in high school featuring sexy girls, but this time around they’re being a little more reserved before dropping the ban hammer, with D-KET explaining in a Steam community post on March 23rd, 2019…

“We are waiting for the OK from Steam but we don’t know why they won’t reply us back. Contacted Steam Support but still no answer. 🙁

“The release date was not set by us but from Steam therefore we can’t do anything until steam has approved the game build.

“We are sorry for the long waiting!”

Many gamers have been waiting for a moment like this because they wanted to see if Valve would apply their rules fairly to yaoi games.

What’s interesting is that Hello, Goodbye was the all-ages version of the game and still got banned from Steam. Valve’s reasoning was that it was “child exploitation”, even though the developer stated that the characters were above the age of 18, but since it was set in a school it was still banned.

We saw how Valve didn’t evenly apply that rule to Sweet Pool, which was a yaoi guru visual novel set in a school and managed to get onto Steam just fine.

Dharker Studio’s My Girlfriend was also banned even though it was set in a college, and it was the all-ages version of the game. However, Dirty Education, a hardcore uncensored furry sex sim, was also set in a college and was the R18+ version of the game and it was let onto Steam just fine.

These double standards were rather obvious to see, but now we have a yaoi visual novel explicitly set in a high-school per the description of the game, and it is also the R18+ version of the game. The short description reads…

“18+ rated YAOI visual novel game dating sim set in a Japanese high school!”

So now Valve is put into a position where they’ll either have to abide by their own rules and ban the game for “child exploitation”, which they’ve done many times in the past, or they’ll give the game a pass and further confirm that there truly is a double standard being applied to their curation process.

Right now Valve is still reviewing the game before they approve for launch into Early Access on the Steam store, but we’ll find out shortly whether they give it the go ahead or put an end to its journey here.
