Stuber Trailer Sees Dave Bautista In An Action Comedy Taking On The Raid’s Iko Uwais

Dave Bautista seems to be really getting around these days, wrestling at Wrestlemania, kicking butt in the Avengers, and now being in his first theatrical action-comedy buddy-up flick. The film Stuber stars Bautista as an on-the-edge cop who doesn’t play by the rules who ends up hitching a ride in an Uber being driven by Kumail Nanjiani.

Michael Dowse’s action-comedy for 20th Century Fox is a throwback to the 1990s style action films that we used to get in spades. There’s a little bit of a driving-all-night vibe to the trailer as well as some classic hard-boiled, ‘R’-rated action tropes that seem to make it into the film (assuming it doesn’t get hacked, butchered, and cleaved into a paltry PG-13 petri dish).

The trailer is well paced and doesn’t appear to give away too much. You can check it out below.

So it starts off kind of tame, with the comedy beats reigning supreme at first, but then the film seems to keep stepping it up a notch as Bautista drags Kumail through increasingly dangerous situations that keep getting more and more violent.

I actually really liked the pacing of the trailer, as it seemed to hint at the film taking the duo from one ridiculous and violent scenario to the next. The best part about it, though, was Iko Uwais from The Raid showing up to beat the living crap out of Bautista and Kumail.

Stuber - Iko Uwais

I also laughed pretty hard when he couldn’t fire the gun so he threw it at Iko only to have it thrown back at him and he gets knocked out.

Hopefully the film doesn’t spare any quarter and it goes for the hard ‘R’ that the trailer appears to depict. I’m definitely picking up some Die Hard With A Vengeance vibes meets Pineapple Express.

You can look for Stuber to hit theaters on July 12th, 2019 later this summer.
