Dead Cells Set To Brutalize Mobile Platforms This Summer

You might want to take out an insurance policy on your smartphone, because it was announced this week that Dead Cells will soon be making the jump to mobile, and I can only imagine how many cracked screens that will result in.

Originally a PC hit and more recently making its way to consoles, Motion Twin’s roguelike metroidvania game is gearing up to dominate mobile this summer. The team is getting help from Playdigious to make the conversion, and I’m absolutely intrigued to see how well Dead Cells translates to touchscreen devices.

Dead Cells is one of those lightning-fast action platformers that rewards quick play and pinpoint accuracy. That’s the kind of gameplay typically best suited to a full controller, but the developer thinks they’ve figured out how to make things work on mobile devices.

Dead Cells is set to launch on iOS this summer, according to a press release, with Android devices getting some love at a later and unspecified date. And in case you were worried this is going to be a free-to-play, ad-supported affair, Motion Twin has snuffed out those concerns from the word go. Dead Cells for mobile will be 10 bucks, no strings attached, and it includes the full game.

To get ready for the mobile port, the press release touts a Dead Cells that has been “carefully redesigned” for iPhone and iPad play with a revamped interface. There will be two play mode available, including “original” and “auto-hit,” the latter of which should help make things a little easier if you’re playing on a small screen.

Speaking of which, you’ll be able to customize the game’s buttons including their size and location, and additional touch control options will be available. And in case you’ve got a compatible controller handy, Dead Cells on mobile will also have MFi external controller support.

So what do you think, folks? Are you up for taking on a challenging game like Dead Cells on your phone? Let us know in the comments below.
