Limited Run Games Bringing Physical Edition Of Popular Visual Novel To The States

Limited Run Games has become well-known in recent years for bringing digital-only games to physical mediums and their first direct localization from Japan will be the fan-favorite visual novel, The House in Fata Morgana. It’s actually due out next week for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

In a recent post over on the PlayStation Blog, Limited Run COO Douglas Bogart reiterated the company’s stance that all games should be made available in a physical format for preservation and, you know, true ownership. In recent years, they’ve launched dozens of physical releases that would have otherwise remained digital exclusives, such as Lumines for the PS4 and Switch, Skullgirls, Mercenary Kings, Yooka-Laylee, Bastion and more. Not every developer/publisher has the resources to make their games available in a physical format, so Limited Run works to bring them to a wider audience.

The House in Fata Morgana launched on PC a few years back and received rave reviews; it’s currently holding down a perfect 10 on Steam. In the game, the player wakes up to discover they have no memories. Amnesia in a Japanese game? Shocking! Anyway, you run into a mysterious maid and, working together, investigate the mansion you find yourself in by traveling to different parts of its history. Apparently it’s a pretty killer tale for those of you who enjoy visual novels.

The Limited Run version of the game will include the main story, a prequel chapter, a sequel chapter and additional short stories to help flesh out the whole narrative. The announcement states this upcoming launch will be the first time that extra content is available in the States. The game has also been rebuilt to support 4K resolutions, and Limited Run has updated the UI, refurbished backgrounds and enhanced various effects and art pieces to make the game shine in its new format.

While a digital version of the game will be made available on the PS4 and Vita for $39.99, the physical version will only cost 10 bucks more, going for $49.99. The digital version drops May 28 with the physical edition launching on May 31. You can also get the collector’s edition for $84.99 if you’re feeling especially flush with cash, which includes the physical game, a soundtrack spread across six damn CDs, a 60-plus page art book and a poster for the game.
