Atsushi Inaba Says Development On Bayonetta 3 Is Going Well, Will Be A High-Quality Game

Early last month we reported on publication outlet Video Games Chronicle having a chat with Platinum Games studio head, Atsushi Inaba, at the company’s headquarters in Osaka, Japan. As of now, during the heart of E3 2019, the website questions Inaba about work on Bayonetta 3 and how development is going.

The website once again had the chance to catch up with Inaba, except this time at E3, and asked him if fans should be worried by Bayonetta 3’s E3 2019 absence. The third installment announced at The Game Awards 2017 seems like it would show up at this E3, right? But that’s not the case. However, Inaba told VGC at this year’s trade show: “No, development is actually going quite well.”

Despite not seeing Bayonetta in action this time around, the studio head has this to say to worried fans via VGC:

“Games aren’t usually done in a year or two… it takes a while. That’s all. Things are going well and I know a lot of people are asking for it.

Giving updates for everything at E3 isn’t the smartest PR strategy to begin with so just because we’re not showing it here doesn’t mean it’s not going well.”

The website also asked Inaba if the 18-months of silence is indicative of the studio’s grand ambitions for the title to which he replied:

“Yes, it’s going to be a high quality title and we’re putting our all into it. That is what you’re seeing [with the silence].”

The website also mentions that the game’s development team has learned a lot from creating the first two titles in that they found different ways to approach Bayonetta 3’s development process. Inaba confirms this by saying:

“With Bayonetta 1 and 2 we had basically an orthodox development process, at least for us. We did stage one, then stage two, then stage three and built up the drama and the pacing chronologically.

For Bayonetta 3, we can say that we learned enough from making the past two games to change our process in a way that’s different to what I just described.”

So what can we take away from all of this? Well, development on Bayonetta 3 is going well as we speak, it will be a high-quality title, and its development process isn’t like the first two installments.

Lastly, Platinum Games is working on Astral Chain, Bayonetta 3, Babylon’s Fall, and two new projects too, which haven’t been announced yet.
