Blasphemous, 2D Action-Platformer Coming To PC And Home Consoles “Soon”

The twisted and grueling world of Blasphemous will test your prowess sometime soon across PC and home consoles. The dark 2D action-platformer will bring questionable “religious themes,” and local architecture from Sevilla right into the upcoming game’s punishing world where fast-paced combat is front and center alongside an evocative narrative.

Whether you prefer to game on PC, PS4, Xbox One or on the Nintendo Switch, the indie game that we briefly covered on this site before will launch “sometime soon” on said platforms.

According to publisher Team17 and developer The Game Kitchen, they bill Blasphemous as a Metroidvania type game. To me, this game is like if Dark Souls met Chakan: The Forever Man and kept the difficulty and design of both titles and the perspective of the latter.

Anyway, the actual description for Blasphemous is up teasing the nightmarish world of Cvstodia and how the protagonist (The Penitent One) must uncover his hellish secrets to reach the origin of his anguish — an entity that is trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth:

“Prepare for a descent into a dark and punishing Metroidvania world where fast-paced, skilled combat combines with a deep and evocative narrative core. You will play as The Penitent One, a sole survivor of the massacre of the ‘Silent Sorrow’. Exploring the nightmarish world of Cvstodia and unlocking the hellish secrets within, only you can free it from a twisted fate and reach the origin of your torment.”

If the “Metroidvania” game rocking a 2D perspective while offering action-platformer themes seems like fun, you can look for the devs to announce the release date for Blasphemous “soon.” Until then, you can expect this game to hit PC via Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
