Activision amd Beenox announced during this year’s E3 that the upcoming Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled will have a series of free DLC made available post-launch, which includes Tawny as a playable character, along with the Nitro Squad, which consists of the Trophy Girls, Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz.
The news was made available over on the PlayStation Blog, where it was detailed that the five characters would be available starting July 3rd, 2019 as free post-launch DLC.
The post-launch roadmap consists of more than just the playable girls, though, a new trailer detailed what Beenox has in store for gamers throughout the upcoming season.
Basically, each season will allow players to earn Nitro points and fill up the gauge to unlock new gear, outfits, parts, and content within Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled.
The blog post also reveals that the Trophy Girls are no longer considered “Trophy Girls”, they’re now called the “Nitro Squad”, with Beenox co-studio head Thomas Wilson explaining…
“In addition to Tawna, players will be re-introduced to Ami, Isabella, Megumi, and Liz. Together, they are now known as the Nitro Squad (formerly known as the Trophy Girls in the original Crash Team Racing), and are now characters that you can race with! They can be unlocked using Wumpa Coins in the Pit Stop during the first Grand Prix. These global bandicoots hail from all over the world, and are ready to compete! There will also be new Motorsport skins for them as well, to really show off their speed and style.”
So for clarification, the trophy girls will no longer present to you trophies, but they will be playable. They will also have new skins instead of their skimpy attire from the old PlayStation games.
Also, you might notice that they’ve been duly covered up.
It’s all part of the feminist overhaul of gaming, where the females have to be covered from head to toe (other than Tawny, who is still in a t-shirt and shorts), and they can no longer be represented in a way that shows off their sex appeal. Maybe, hopefully, there will be unlockable skins that feature them in their original swimsuit attire from the first Crash Team Racing, but in today’s Age of the Clown that might seem a fetch too far.
It’s pretty obvious it was a deliberate agenda to cover them up the way they are because otherwise the Trophy Girls could have stayed as trophy girls AND you would have been able to unlock them as playable characters. But instead they ended up getting a name change (i.e., from Trophy Girls to the more gender neutral Nitro Squad) and they no longer appear as trophy presenters in swim attire. I mean, realistically, why not have them do both?
Anyway, some gamers worried that they wouldn’t appear in the game at all, but that appears to be untrue. They will appear in the game it just won’t be until July 3rd when the first Grand Prix of the season gets underway and the first major content drop becomes available, for free.
