DOOM Eternal Release Date Set For November 22nd, 2019
Doom Eternal - Doomslayer

Bethesda didn’t have any big news items to share at this year’s E3, focusing mostly on games we already knew were coming, games coming we don’t care about, and games with teasers that left us scratching our heads. One of the games that people do care about is id Software’s DOOM Eternal, and during the Bethesda E3 press conference the release date was revealed as November 22nd, 2019.

They reiterated the release date by dropping the story trailer for the game, as well as showcasing a couple of minutes worth of gameplay where we got to see some of the weapon upgrades in play, some of the power-ups in effect, and some new enemies.

You can check out the new trailer below, which showcases the Mars map, as well as a few of the new enemies.

The multi-barrel chaingun is so next-level awesome. It’s like if extradimensional sex were a gun.

The trailer is also filled with pure badassery. We see the Doom Guy laying waste to hordes of enemies, making use of new stage traps by shooting the buttons, and facing off against some of the new enemies.

Bethesda also revealed the collector’s edition, which includes a life-sized replica helmet of the Doom Guy, a year one season pass for DLC featuring story content (which I’m none too fond of), a lithograph, and a retro sound pack featuring the weapon sounds of the classic guns.

In the other demonstration we also see what looks like a cyber-hell knight with a plasma cannon on one of his arms. They’ve done a good job of teasing new villains and new locations for the series, which seems to keep the hype moving along toward QuakeCon.

They also introduced the new Battlemode, where two players take on the role of a demon and they must work together to take down another player who is in the role of a Slayer. They can spawn new enemies into the arena and attempt to use the battlefield against the player in an attempt to secure victory. You can check out the trailer below.

Not much else was put on display at this year’s E3 event for DOOM: Eternal. Bethesda and id Software are saving up all their big guns for QuakeCon this year where they have plans on revealing some of the new multiplayer content for the upcoming shooter, but I’m hoping that the game will allow for traditional mods, because that’s the only thing that really matters to me at this point.

Also, for the love of our eyesight I surely hope there’s some way to turn off all that clutter and junk on the HUD, it looked atrocious!

There are 4chan memes about shooters in [current year] with craptastic HUDs filled with icons, gauges, bars, and numbers. We don’t need all of that on the screen at all times. Keep it minimal; keep it clean. Try to keep players focused on what’s happening on-screen rather than all the stats on the far fringes of the monitor or TV. Beyond that the game looks pretty interesting. I’m also curious how the whole celestial element will come into play that they teased during the story trailer.

DOOM Eternal - Heaven's Wrath

In some ways I’m getting some Darksiders vibes from the game. We’ll find out more at QuakeCon ahead of the November 22nd, 2019 release date for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and for the Nintendo Switch.
