Furwind, 16-Bit Inspired Platformer Now Available On PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch

Furries are probably dripping liquids in all the wrong places knowing that Furwind from Spanish outfits Boomfire Games and JanduSoft is now available on home consoles, specifically the Nintendo Switch, the PS Vita, and the PlayStation 4.

The 16-bit inspired platformer is a throwback to classic games like Demon Crest, Aero The Acro-Bat and Rocket Knight.

You’ll take on the role of a small fox who must become the hero of the forest by defeating an ancient evil, saving his friends, and returning peace to the land. You can check out the gameplay launch trailer below, which is exceptionally polished to be made by a small indie team from Spain.

The game looks really good as far as performance, playability and art quality is concerned. This looks like it comes right out of the Sega Genesis or SNES era with some spit shine and polish the likes of which we rarely get from indie studios these days.

The warm autumn palette and diverse mix of levels that range from leafy forests to stone-pillared lairs gives the impression that there’s an ample supply of different stages that takes players on a worthwhile journey, as indicated in the overworld map screen from the trailer.

There are 30 levels in total according to the press release, along with many items you can collect to help you along the way, and an ample cache of enemies to overcome.

If you’re interested in accommodating your inner furry, you can pick up Furwind from the Nintendo eShop or the PlayStation Store right now. The game is also scheduled to release on the Xbox One starting July 10th a couple of weeks after the other console versions. There’s also a cross-buy option available for the PS Vit and PS4 version of the game, so if you own both of Sony’s platforms you will gain access to the game on both by only purchasing the game once, which is useful.

You can pick up a digital copy of Furwind for the Nintendo Switch from the Nintendo eShop for $9.99. Alternatively you can head to the PlayStation Store to get the game for £7.99.
