Spike Chunsoft finally lifted the lid on the censorship for Crystar. It’s not something we didn’t already know about, it’s just a confirmation that the 0.5 second bare buttocks scene from the intro that shows the main character going through her transformation sequence will be censored from the intro on the PS4 version of the game. According to Spike Chunsoft, the game will not be censored for Steam.
The news came courtesy of a post over on the official Spike Chunsoft website, where they explained that due to Sony’s censorship policies they had to nuke 0.5 seconds of the intro, writing…
“We would like to inform the community about a content change made to this release. In the PlayStation 4 version of the title, the pre-title-screen cinematic has had approximately 0.5 seconds of footage depicting Rei’s naked buttocks removed. This change does not affect gameplay and no other content has been modified.
“These content changes will not be applied to the Steam (PC) version.”
Gamers first noticed the censorship of Crystar when the intro sequence for the Steam version was first revealed back in March of 2019. When comparing the video on the Steam page to the original Japanese intro, gamers noticed that the butt flash was missing.
Worries mounted because Zanki Zero was also censored to accommodate Sony’s censorship policies, but instead of allowing the uncensored version on Steam, Spike had both the PS4 and Steam versions censored.
The good part about this turn of events is that at least PC gamers won’t have to suffer the censorship that’s being applied to the PS4 version of the game. To further compliment this news, Spike released a new character trailer to help get gamers in the mood for the upcoming release of Crystar. You can check it out below.
This is a rare win for Steam users, even if it’s just 0.5 seconds of a bare bottom that gets to stay in the game. Hopefully with this news out of the way Spike will no longer feel compelled to have the topics censored on the forums, and will just let things play out as usual.
You can look for Spike Chunsoft and Furyu’s Crystar to launch on PS4 and Steam starting August 27th, 2019 next month.
