Jawbreakers: GØD-K1NG Comic Soars Past $78,000 On IndieGoGo

Richard C. Meyer of Diversity and Comics fame is back with another crowdfunded project on IndieGoGo with a follow-up to his original Jawbreakers comic book called GØD-K1NG.

The IndieGoGo campaign has already amassed $78,000 over the course just days. The campaign still has 27 days to go, and it looks like the momentum is picking up.

The story takes place after the original Jawbreakers: Lost Souls, which was crowdfunded early last year to startling success. It even attracted to the collusive efforts of the comic pros to attempt to block the sale of Jawbreakers at retailers, which led to Antarctic Press canceling the distribution due to tortious interference from Mark Waid.

However, Meyer came back stronger than ever with GØD-K1NG, and it looks like the comic will go on to make bank and turn heads once more.

The story for the next entry in the series is kind of interesting. It actually contains four tales, including the one about the GØD-K1NG, a self-appointed titled by a super being who attempts to take over New York, forcing the Jawbreakers back into action and venturing to their home turf to do battle against the mysterious and powerful foe.

The story follows through with the plotline that originated in Jawbreakers: Lost Souls. There’s an additional three stories as well, including a prequel by Chuck Dixon called Desolation Wave: Master/$lave, along with Devildog: Origin, which is another prequel written by Dixon. The fourth and last story is Xaxi: Re-spawn, which has some very interesting art, and it’s written by Richard C. Meyer.

Meyer promises to get the book finished by August, 2019 and shipped out via distribution by September, 2019. It’s a close call having the crowdfunding campaign so close to shipping but he’s no stranger to flirting with danger.

According to the campaign page the pencil and inks are 95% complete, and 66% of the interior story pages have been colored, while 40% of the story pages have been lettered. So they’re a decent ways into finishing up production and working at an impressive pace.

Renzo Rodriguez and Aaron Alfeche’s art, by the way, looks amazing. The attention to detail and dynamic perspectives scream off the page with visual appeal. These guys really know how to bring comic book pages to life.
