The Walking Dead: Telltale Definitive Series Launches With “Graphic Black” Filter

Skybound Games announced that they will be distributing both a physical and digital version of The Walking Dead; Telltale Definitive Series, which will incorporate the entire 23-episode series across multiple seasons for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Epic Games Store for PC.

The definitive edition will feature more than 50 hours of gameplay, along with bonus behind-the-scenes featurettes with developer commentary, character art galleries, a “Return of the Walking Dead” vidoc short, along with The Walking Dead; Michonne, 400 Days DLC and various other digital bonus packs tucked into the bundle.

Interestingly enough, the package will also come with a neat little graphics filter called “graphic black”. According to the press release this will turn the game’s episodes into a graphic novel to mimic the look and feel of the paperback series from Robert Kirkman.

There’s a teaser trailer for the “graphic black” feature that you can check out below, showing comparisons between the original series and the updated definition edition.

Kent Mudle, the creative director for The Walking Dead and the Still Not Bitten development team at Skybound Games commented about the filter, mentioning in the press release…

“Graphic black is a loving tribute to the source material and a powerful art style that makes the game look like a living comic book. An idea the team formulated and perfected with THE FINAL SEASON, this new visual styling offers longtime fans a way to play the series again in a brand-new light while giving new audiences a smooth visual ride across all seasons.”

They also say there are going to be new animations in the definitive series, but I didn’t see that in the teaser. It all looked about the same (animation wise) to me.

According to the press release the game will also be available via special digital pre-orders, but details on that are going to be announced at a later date. Given that the previous iterations of the game are pulled form digital storefronts and anything related to Telltale Games have received  the distribution axe, it makes sense that Skybound would release a definitive version at physical retail outlets so that there’s something collectible for gamers to keep hold of, opposite of what’s happening with Minecraft: Story Mode, which is kaput for good.

Anyway, you can look for The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series to launch on September 10th, 2019 for $49.99 on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC, featuring all four seasons and the bonus DLC.
