Panache Digital Games’ Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is now available on PC. The game is scheduled to release on Xbox One and PS4 in December. You won’t be able to get the game on the Steam store until 2020, so for now it’s an Epic Games Store exclusive, which means a large portion of people won’t play it until December. Either way, there’s a gameplay walkthrough available to help newbies get started in the evolutionary survival game.
YouTuber MKIceandFire rolled out a playlist featuring a gameplay walkthrough for Acenstors: The Humankind Odyssey that you can check out below.
At the start of the game you’re able to choose a new lineage or continue from an existing one. Obviously, if you’re starting a new game you only have the option of starting a new lineage.
Once you choose your lineage’s name, you can choose your game mode and whether or not you have a full tutorial. You can also choose whether you start as a male or female; there are only two genders.
After setting up the game, there’s an intro cinematic that’s poorly done, showcasing some low-poly animals killing each other.
Volume 1: Before Us
The cinematic follows a fish that gets snatched up by a primate .
Okay so the whole thing starts kind of dumb. You have to use your senses and focus on points of interest in the environment using the face buttons.
In the sense mode use ‘A’ on the Xbox One controller or ‘X’ on the PS4’s Dualshock to stand up and also hide under objects.
Use ‘X’ on the Xbox controller or ‘Square’ on the DualShock to smell objects, use ‘B’ on the Xbox controller or ‘Circle’ on the DualShock to listen for nearby hints, and use ‘Y’ to access your intelligence by memorizing points of interest and expanding your neural network.
When moving around, the left analog allows you to control the character while ‘A’ on the Xbox controller or ‘X’ on the DualShock allows you to jump. Hold down the jump button when interacting with trees to climb or grab onto ledges.
You’ll need to inspect and examine objects as you get near them to further expand your neurons and your knowledge base.
At the start of the game, use the baby monkey to go hide under a rock.
The game will then switch to the papa or mama monkey.
Direct the papa/mama monkey to the baby hiding in the rocks by traveling across the jungle trees toward the rock enclosure.
Once you get the the baby back, make your way up the trees by the waterfall until you reach the water spot with the other monkeys.
A short cinematic will play.
From there, you’ll need to find a gathering spot. So go by the river and examine the contents within the river and it will be labeled as a gathering spot.
You can rest to replenish the stats of the hominid by sleeping.
Open up the evolution menu and you can select to expand the avatar’s ability to hold things in their left and right hand. This will allow you to learn new skills. You can easily switch items in your hand using the left bumper.
When you acquire this skill go to the tree branch and switch hands and then activate the “Alter” skill to slowly strip the branch until you learn a new skill. It may take you a couple of tries before you master the stripping skill, much like a Twitch thot.
Use the focus skill to spot the obsidian within the rock structure and grab a piece, also grab a small piece of granite. Inspect them and then rub the granite and obsidian together so that you can learn how to shape obsidian.
Once again, it may take you a couple of tries to unlock the skill.
Next up, head to the pack of hominids and interact with them.
You can increase your bonding with them by grooming them. Once the bond is increased enough with a female, you can then procreate and make another baby.
If you make your way up the rock surfaces you may find a beehive – inspect it and it will unlock a new gathering point.
Make sure to keep examining and inspecting things, as well as partaking in new actions, such as building new bonds or finding new items. These will increase your neural capacity and allow you to become better and more advanced.
Head down the waterfall and reach the ground level. If you interact with the water you’ll discover a new water source.
If you examine the two twin trees you’ll unlock a special landmark and if you use the trees to examine points of interests down below, including the warthog and sabertooth tiger.
Examining and sensing these creatures will also open up matured neurons as you assess and recognize new threats.
Basically you need to rinse and repeat examining and learning about everything around you.
You’ll gain quite a few matured neurons by learning more about enemies.
Make your way up the trees and you’ll discover new food you cam eat as well as items you can use to soothe itchiness.
After you examine and recognize or “rationalize” your surroundings, you’ll then need to reach a “Conquer Zone”, which allows you to rationalize fears and realizations from within the environment.
The Conquer Zone also expands the home range for your clan once you reach it. If enemies are attacking you, it also forces the enemies away.
After you conquer several zones, make your way toward a triangular mystery box on the map and when you examine it, it will reveal a new landmark, the Jungle Cascade Oasis.
Traverse toward the landmark and you’ll find a new edible in the trees: cocos.
You may want to make your way back to the camp and upgrade your clan.
Additionally, you can create nesting spots by gathering a bunch of leaves together and stockpiling them together.
Now while it might be tempting to evolve as soon as possible, the reality is that you’ll want to unlock as many evolution points as possible so that you can reinforce your lineage when they pass down skills via genetic mutation.
When you get done upgrading your clan and reinforcing their genetic advancements, you can then choose to evolve them by several dozen millennia.
After evolving and stripping down a branch, you can examine the branch and discover its use as a stick.
You’ll also be introduced to the Lone Kapok Oasis, if you haven’t discovered it already.
Take two granite rocks in each hand and alter them with the left bumper until one of the rocks is shaved. You can then used the shaved granite on the stick using the alter modifier.
You can also use the stick in combat to counter enemy attacks, which will allow you to unlock a new neural pathway.
