We tried warning people about Cyberpunk 2077. A lot of the design decisions seemed to veer way too far to the Left for the tastes of us normal folk. Well, it turns out that CD Projekt Red has taken a sip of the Soylent-laced Spumante.
“You know, [with Cyberpunk 2077] we really want to make a video game that’s really inclusive. Of course, if you tackle certain subjects then you will expect people to have an opinion about it and we respect that. And it’s good that people give us feedback. And our character creation menu, for instance, compared to the last demo we now give you so many more options. For instance, you don’t choose your gender anymore. You don’t choose, ‘I want to be a female or male character’ you now choose a body type. Because we want you to feel free to create any character you want. So you choose your body type and we have two voices, one that’s male sounding, one is female sounding. You can mix and match. You can just connect them any way you want. And then we have a lot of extra skin tones and tattoos and hairstyles. So we really want to give people the freedom to make their own character and play the way they want to play.
“Our team is very international and very diverse but we have asked for a lot of feedback. We always ask for feedback and even when we show these demos, we still ask people to tell us what they think. We just wanna know what we can improve on because we want to make a really good game [with Cyberpunk 2077] and we really wanna make a game that everybody is comfortable playing. But at the same time we’ll tackle difficult issues. It is a cyberpunk world after all.”
The only people who use words like “inclusive” and “diverse” to describe games, movies, or comic books are mentally ill people.
Normal people don’t use that kind of degenerate language.
What’s more is that they removed gendered language in the character creation yet you still choose between male and female voices and body types. So what was the point of removing “male” and “female” if the body types and voices are the same? What?!?!
For a little context, places like ResetEra and game journalists complained about the male and female gendered options in the character creator for Cyberpunk 2077. Journalists kept trying to bait the developers into proclaiming that the game had non-binary options – a biological status that does not exist in real life.
CD Projekt held out for some time, but journalists kept peppering them and bombarding them with requests for trans and non-binary options. So finally CD Projekt Red addressed the whole trans and non-binary thing, saying that they would add those features to the game. Back in June we reported on quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz telling Gamasutra…
“Or nonbinary. The idea is to mix all of those up, to give them to the players, as they would like to build it. Same goes for the voice. We wanted to separate this out, so the players can choose it freely. This is something we are still working on, it’s not as easy as it sounds.
“This is one part of it. In terms of how we depict the characters within the setting itself, of course, yes, we are paying a lot of attention to it, we do not want anyone to feel like we are neglecting this, or treating it wrongly.”
I’m sure fanboys will keep defending the game, declaring that CD Projekt Red isn’t capitulating, even though they already have. Once you give up an inch it’s already done. You’ve already lost.
They should have just kept the gendered options the same. But they’ve put blood in the water and now we all know what’s going to happen from here on.
