It looks like the iconic cop from Detroit, Michigan will appear sometime in the foreseeable future through the lens of Neill Blomkamp. Yes, the R-rated flick is in the works as we speak and will pay homage to Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic, RoboCop, by flaunting the very iconic OG suit.
Verhoeven hasn’t been as active in recent times in the movie space, but there’s no denying that the man has made a splash in the cinema space back in the 1980s and 1990s. Of course, people unfamiliar with his work will instantly know his prowess when it comes to action movies like Total Recall and Starship Troopers.
As a matter of fact, Verhoeven is known well enough that South African director Neill Blomkamp is working on the Dutch director’s hit sci-fi cop film. As picked up by website ScreenRant last month, the site scooped some info up from Blomkamp’s Twitter account noting:
“Posting on his personal Twitter account, Blomkamp responded to a request for an update on the film from HN Entertainment’s Nicholas Whitcomb. Blomkamp replied that the “script is being written” and that it was “going well”. He also reiterated his previous comments that his sequel is as though Verhoeven himself was back in the director’s chair. In a follow-up to that particular comment, a second fan inquired as to whether that meant the original suit would be back in place. Blomkamp insisted that it indeed would be, one million percent.”
In other words, Blomkamp is trying to capture the original as best as possible. However, will SJW and current year politics make it into the film? That question remains unanswered right now.
Contrary to being unanswered, Blomkamp this month took to Twitter to announce that ED-209 will be in the film dubbed “RoboCop Returns”:

Sadly, no word on a release date for RoboCop Returns has surfaced, but I’m sure in time Blomkamp and crew will fix that.
