Pikii and Tamsoft revealed a brand new game for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, which has proven to be a much bigger event with more surprises than E3 or GamesCom this year. The new title is called Hinomaruko and it’s about a chick fighting against mechs in order to save Imperial Japan from an invasion of American and Soviet Union forces.
According to Gematsu, the story centers around Imperial Japan being strained from constant war, leading its forces into depletion and eventually getting overtaken by invading countries. The Emperor decides that there’s one last chance to save Japan, and only a female warrior with martial arts skills, mechanized projectile emitters, and a schoolgirl outfit can get the job done!
The game plays out like a fast-paced, combo-heavy, hack-and-slash title, not unlike Devil May Cry. The action sequences look fantastic and you can check it out via the announcement trailer below.
It’s best to talk about the most important aspect of the trailer: Hinomaru’s panty shots.
The game is designed so that as she’s performing kicks, spins, flips, and dodges, you’re always getting to see up her skirt. This is how it should be when a woman goes into battle where a thigh-high skirt. Every time she kicks you’re going to get flashes of her delectably dainty delicates.
The camera isn’t shy about putting the focus on the most inviting elements of the female characters: their boobs and butt.
Every kick lets us see under the skirt; every spin sees the camera down low so we get a panty shot; every takedown features a small gust of wind so the unmentionables become the only thing worth mentioning. This is how you do fan-service right, this is how you cultivate boner culture.
On the gameplay side of things, we see that Hinomaru will take down armor-clad, mech-powered enemies, not unlike NieR: Automata. However, the combat appears to be much faster, and it looks like players will get to orient themselves for follow-up attacks in between takedowns, similar to using Glory Kills in the 2016 version of DOOM, which gave you a slight pause before refocusing your attention on the next set of enemies.
One of the bosses also appears to be a buxom, blonde-haired, blue-eyed villain who will tangle with Hinomaru throughout the game.
As you can see, even though she’s one of the bad guys they still took the time to make her look attractive.
This is typically one of the areas that marks a major drawback to a lot of recent Western games: their females are hideous. Both the good girls and the bad girls are always ugly, like that Charles Barkley wannabe in Mortal Kombat 11 that was imitating Sheeva.
In this case, Tamsoft took great care to ensure that even if you don’t like the character from a story perspective, they gave you at least two good reasons to indulge in the character’s undeniably enticing art design.
If the gameplay in Hinomaruko is as pleasing as the cleavage in the above image, then Tamsoft and Pikii could have a real winner on their hands.
A combination of compelling storytelling with solid gameplay can easily make a game a decent seller, but that can be taken to the next level when you throw in quality-made, expertly designed fan-service, much like what Platinum Games accomplished with NieR: Automata.
A release date wasn’t announced yet, but be sure to keep an eye on the official Hinomaruko website for further announcements and details on this 3D hack-and-slash, beat-’em-up action title. Hopefully it doesn’t end up on the wrong side of the censorship brush due to Sony’s censorship policies.
