SNL Kowtows To Cancel Culture, Fires Shane Gillis For Past Jokes Deemed “Offensive”

Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels had a spokesperson issue a statement on the firing of comedian Shane Gillis based on past jokes and off-the-cuff remarks he made in podcasts and radio shows.

Variety is reporting a spokesperson on behalf of Michaels wrote…

“After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining ‘SNL,’ We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for SNL. We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.”

This comes just four days after reports surfaced from media outlets – like Variety and OK! Magazine – who picked up on the Twitter outrage campaign from social justice mobs intent on getting Gillis fired before he even appeared on the show.

Clips from the podcasts – specifically from Episode 144 – A.I. Is Racist from the Matt & Shane’s Secret Podcast, which you can listen to in full over on Player.fm – were used to smear and tarnish Gillis in hopes of getting him fired.

The tweet below from Seth Simons garnered more than 18,000 likes, helping it achieve the momentum it needed from cancel culture to cancel Gillis’ potential career at Saturday Night Live.

Since Simons is in with the social justice crowd and has a blue checkmark, his tweets – along with others – went viral enough to reach the head office of Saturday Night Life, thus resulting in Gillis being fired.

The comedian responded to the news about his firing with a statement posted to a tweet on September 16th, 2019.

If you’re unable to read the text in the tweet or if the tweet is not appearing as it should, it states…

“It feels ridiculous for comedians to be making serious public statements but here we are.

“I’m a comedian who was funny enough to get SNL. That can’t be taken away.

“Of course I wanted an opportunity to prove myself at SNL, but I understand it would be too much of a distraction. I respect the decision they made. I’m honestly grateful for the opportunity. I was always a mad tv guy anyway.”

This comes right on the heels of social activists trying to cancel Dave Chappelle after his Netflix special aired where he ripped into outrage culture and all of the frail-hearted fairies that make life hard for normal folks. Chappelle’s special earned him a 31% rating from professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes as of the writing of this article. However, the critic ratings sit in stark contrast to what viewers thought of the show, given that it has a 99% rating.

This is all part of a continued effort from the Left to standardize political correctness to the point of subservience.

Soon you won’t be able to make jokes at all without losing potential job opportunities, your career, or heck even your life.

As some people pointed out on Twitter, classic comedians like George Carlin or Richard Pryor never would have been able to make it in today’s social climate given all the unspoken regulations that govern public discourse by the Regressive Left.
