Stygian: Reign Of The Old Ones, Lovecraftian CRPG Now Available On Steam

Cultic Games and 1C Entertainment’s crowdfunded lovecraftian CRPG, Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones, is now available for download over on the Steam store for $29.99. During the first week of its release you can get the game for 15% off the normal price.

The game allows players to create their own character, recruit their own team, and follow their own ends to a story that isn’t remotely themed around saving the world.

You see, in Stygian the world is already doomed; consumed by the madness of the Old Ones. Players will need to find their own path by carving a way through the streets of Arkham to the very depths of the abyss during the 1920s.

The game utilizes hand-drawn visuals that match the aesthetics of classic pixelated games from the 1990s, such as H.R. Giger’s The Dark Seed or Cyberdreams’ I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.

Stygian is played like a point-and-click, turn-based strategy title where you explore the environment, talk to NPCs, and avoid having your mental state succumbing to the effects of the great Abyss.

Much like Darkest Dungeon, the Sanity meter will come into play and you’ll need to battle against the ever-encroaching presence of mental illness in a place where chaos reigns supreme and eldritch horrors lurk around the corners.

One neat aspect of the game is that the magic system is tied to the Sanity system. You can tap into the dark power that emanates throughout Arkham, utilizing the black magic to deal damage or get yourself out of a tough bind, but it comes at the price of your character’s sanity. There’s a high risk/reward system at play that will likely appeal to people who want a little more strategy and thought out of their RPGs.

If you’re interested in this unique new CRPG, you can pick up a copy right now from over on the Steam store.
