Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE On Nintendo Switch Still Censored, According To Reports
Tokyo Mirage Sessions Censored

[Update 9/6/2019:] Gematsu put up a screenshot from the Japanese version of the game’s website, where it appears to show the uncensored version of a costume fromTokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. A Twitter user did a comparison between the original Japanese version and the censored version that was released in the West, claiming that the game may be uncensored.

However, we still don’t know what’s going on with the censorship regarding Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore until more information is made available. It’s possible that the screenshot is from the original uncensored version from Japan that released on the Wii U, or it’s possible that some of the content will be uncensored on the Switch version. It’s not clear.

When asked about the censorship that was present in the reveal trailer from the Nintendo Direct, the game’s director, Mitsuru Hirata, ignored all Twitter queries about the censorship while responding to fans who either praised the game or thanked him for it. So we’ll have to wait for further confirmation on the censorship status of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.

[Original article:] During the September 4th, 2019 edition of the Nintendo Direct, one of the games highlighted in the half hour special was Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore. The re-release of the Wii U exclusive will feature a brand new song, new missions, updated graphics and… plenty of censorship.

According to Sankaku Complex both the English and Japanese version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore have been censored.

We know for a fact that the English version is censored because during the Nintendo Direct we saw the trailer for the game, and it featured the exact same levels of censorship that were in the Wii U version. You can see the trailer for yourself below.

And yes, the same thing applies to the Japanese version of the trailer that aired during the Nintendo Direct as well.

You can check out the trailer below, which features the same kind of censorship from the English version in the Japanese version.

For those of you who don’t remember, a myriad of changes were made during the localization process of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for the Wii U when it made the transition from Japanese to English, including the pelvis bones being removed from one of the female models, all of the cleavage being covered up, many of the leotards covered up, the swimsuit DLC being changed, and more.

We did an article both detailing how much the game was censored as well as how poorly it sold.

There were various videos from Censored Gaming covering the censorship.

They compared both the English and Japanese releases, and what sort of changes that befell both the cinematics and the gameplay.

The changes were quite distinct and fairly obvious.

There’s a tiny sliver of hope in the fact that some believe that maybe the Japanese version was just using the footage from the English version.

According to JPUncut, they noted that while the trailers for both English and Japanese were censored, it’s possible that the Japanese version was just using the stock footage from the English version with Japanese audio.

This is actually a good point. If you notice that both the English and Japanese trailers use the same footage, and while part of the text is translated into English, part of the text within both trailers are also in Japanese.

So, is it possible that the Japanese trailer was just using the stock footage from the English version? It’s possible. But then again, the reverse is also possible: that the English trailer was using stock footage from the Japanese version of the game.

Either way, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is censored. We still have to wait to find out if both versions are censored or if it’s just going to be the English version.
