Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Have A Post-Launch Battle Pass System

On Activision’s Games Blog, Infinity Ward took up the opportunity to sugarcoat the forthcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s post-launch microtransaction scheme. With many small and big people alike talking about the game’s soon to be live service setup, the devs are looking to stifle any concern in an attempt to coerce the gullible into thinking nothing is wrong.

Electronic Arts and Dice tried using the “keeping the player base together” meme to get as many sheep to buy Battlefield V, but that didn’t work out so well. Now, Activision and Infinity Ward are trying the same thing by “breaking down walls and bringing the community together” as per blog.activision.com.

To bolster the narrative that “we are on your side,” the blog post stresses that the following is the dev’s motto moving forward:

  • Introducing crossplay to unite the community across platforms for the first time.
  • Removing Season Pass and a la carte DLC multiplayer map packs to ensure everyone can play together.
  • Delivering free post-launch multiplayer maps and modes for all players.
  • Releasing post-launch multiplayer maps and modes simultaneously on all platforms.

Although free content sounds good and all, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a Battle Pass system:

  • All functional content that has an impact on game balance, such as base weapons and attachments, can be unlocked simply by playing the game.
  • The new Battle Pass system will allow players to see the content that they are earning or buying. Battle Passes will launch timed to new, post-launch live seasons, so you can unlock cool new Modern Warfare-themed content that matches each season.
  • With the new Battle Pass system, players will be able to earn COD Points by playing the game.
  • There will be both a Free Stream and a Premium Stream of content in the Battle Pass System in Modern Warfare. New base weapons will be earned through gameplay, simply by playing Modern Warfare. Functional attachments for base weapons can be unlocked through gameplay as well just like in the game’s Beta.
  • The Battle Pass and the In-Game Store will feature a variety of cosmetic content that does not impact game balance.

The Battle Pass System for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not be available at launch when the game releases on October 25th. The reason for this is so that the devs can make the “day one experience awesome.”

Secondly, the devs feel that it is important to let everyone playing the FPS game have the chance to work their way through its progression system — which will likely have grindy elements to it.

The full system is planned to launch later this year.

Lastly, we know that through the new Battle Pass system, you can earn or buy content and COD Points will go live around the same time as this seasonal system.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will debut this month for PC via battle.net, PS4, and Xbox One on October 25th, 2019.
