After tumultuous launches and disastrous failures, it looks like EA is taking things back some and won’t launch games back to back. In this case, both the next Battlefield and Dragon Age game are set to come out around the year 2022, according to EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen.
During EA’s conference call back on October 29th, 2019, the top executives talked to many investors about their latest games, upcoming games, and how the company will focus on live-service mechanics moving forward.
Dragon Age 4 is a name that popped up during the conference call as per inverse.com. Here’s a section of CFO Jorgensen talking to investors about a potential release date for Dragon Age 4:
“You should assume that there is Dragon Age out there. We’ve talked about it publicly that it’s in the works, and it probably comes after in [fiscal year 2022].”
Website seekingalpha.com also cited EA’s CFO saying the following when asked about if the potential fourth installment has a release window:
“We typically don’t give multiyear guidance this early in the year. I don’t want to start giving ’23 guidance now that I’ve started a hint on ’22. But you should assume it’s out there and plans are underway.”
While the game isn’t coming out anytime soon and dev time has increased, folks should know that not everything is going well at BioWare.
In case you don’t know, Anthem’s lead producer Ben Irving left the company back in August as well as former Mass Effect: Andromeda producer and lead producer on the next Dragon Age game Fernando Melo.
Despite Melo leaving during the next Dragon Age’s development, according to Creative Director Matthew Goldman, he confirmed back in 2018 that “colorful companions,” “romance,” and “epic choices” are a mainstay. In other words, get ready for “current year” speak when it launches in the next three or so years.
So there you have it, the next Dragon Age game isn’t coming out this year or next year but sometime around or after March 2022.
