The Chinese boot-licking company known as Blizzard — with a myriad of problems stacking each day — will kick-off this year’s BlizzCon starting on November 1st, 2019. Leading up to this con has prominent leakers and rumor spreaders taking to big publication sites to claim that Blizzard will reveal Overwatch 2 at said event.
Firstly, you might know Rod Breslau, no? He’s the guy that helped reinforce The Quartering’s finding of Apex Legends. He’s also covered a lot of games industry news, esports related content, and more.
Well, as of now, Breslau has a piece up on espn.com claiming that Blizzard will unveil the second iteration or expansion to Overwatch sometime in early November.
Here’s a portion of Breslau’s write-up:
“Blizzard Entertainment will unveil the next iteration of its popular Overwatch franchise featuring a new logo, new game modes, maps, heroes and PvE features at BlizzCon this week, according to a BlizzCon source and a BlizzCon training document, which included information about Overwatch 2 and was obtained by ESPN.
It was earlier reported in June by Kotaku that Blizzard was working on a PvE-focused Overwatch 2, with Blizzard assigning resources from other areas in the company that included a canceled StarCraft first-person shooter game using the Overwatch engine. The document obtained by ESPN offers a first look for what to expect from Blizzard’s franchise esports title at BlizzCon, which begins on Friday.
Notably, the Overwatch logo now has a small orange “2” indexed in the top right corner.”
Breslau claims that hero talents and in-game items are coming to Overwatch 2 via a Player Vs. Enemy (PvE) mode with one of the missions being a four-player story experience set in Rio de Janeiro.
The writer also reports there will be a focus on story and narrative elements, a new mode with “Push” set to be unveiled alongside Assault, Control, Escort, and Hybrid. Breslau remarks that “Push” will appear on a new map based in “Toronto.”
Later, Breslau says that Blizzard is expected to announce at least one new hero during the event that will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
With all of that said, do you remember a rumored leak that hit the web back in June of this year? Well, that rumor says that Overwatch 2 will launch with a new character, and a PvE mode similar to Left-4 Dead. Additionally, the “leak” covers a lot more:
The above “leak” says that more gay characters will be in the second game or expansion, or whatever this thing will be, but we’ll find out if any of the above is true or not in the next five days. This also ties into a recent rumor that also claimed Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV would be revealed at Blizzcon.
Not that I condone you to watch it, but if for some reason you choose to do so, this BlizzCon is set to kick-off on November 1st and will end on November 2nd, 2019.
