Joker director Todd Phillips has been tearing it up lately in the media circuit, calling out Social Justice Warriors and condemning the corrupt media for trying to misrepresent the film as some sort of impetus for incel violence. Phillips wasn’t done taking shots at the politically correct nature of today’s industry, though, and explained that woke culture is the reason he isn’t making irreverent comedies anymore.
“Go try to be funny nowadays with this woke culture. There were articles written about why comedies don’t work anymore—I’ll tell you why, because all the fucking funny guys are like, ‘Fuck this shit, because I don’t want to offend you.’”
“It’s hard to argue with 30 million people on Twitter. You just can’t do it, right? So you just go, ‘I’m out.’ I’m out, and you know what? With all my comedies—I think that what comedies, in general, all have in common—is they’re irreverent. So I go, ‘How do I do something irreverent, but fuck comedy? Oh I know, let’s take the comic book movie universe and turn it on its head with this.’ And so that’s really where that came from.”
Phillips isn’t the only one who has noticed that woke culture in today’s politically correct climate has resulted in the inability to produce raunchy comedies or even any kind of risque movie these days without getting dogpiled by lonely cat ladies and horror-house trap impersonators.
Other comedians such as Jerry Seinfeld have been quite vocal about the colleges being too overrun with postmodernist safe space weasels and cultural Communist rats.
Comedians have had to deal with this kind of pushback from the college circus circles for some time, but it eventually trickled into every other aspect of mainstream, so much so that every movie, game, show, comic book, or series is now scrutinized by these unctuous ultra-progressives and nanny-state ninnies.
It’s quite insufferable, and it’s nice to see, or hear, prominent directors like Todd Phillips openly condemn just how insufferable these banal burlap sacks of bile can really be.
Joker has already made headlines for the star of the film Joaquin Phoenix walking out of interviews due to the stupidity of activist journalists, as reported by The Telegraph, and Warner Bros., actively banning press from the red carpet premiere to avoid any more of that noxious stupidity from negatively impacting the stars of the film during the premiere.
At least we know that Phillips is wide awake when it comes to woke culture, and he’s absolutely no fan of it, just like the rest of us normal folk.
