PS4 Cross-Play Exits Beta According To New Reports

Sony has implemented content censorship regulations not too long ago that has angered gamers and fans alike. However, it looks like the house of blue may try to assuage some of the frustrations by gearing up to support cross-play, according to a new report that has hit the web.

Whether you are a fan of Sony or not, or if you happen to game on Xbox One or Switch, one day, you might cross paths with someone gaming on a PS4.

Website Wired.com had the chance to talk with Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, and chatted about a list of things revolving around Sony’s ventures and plans.

Being bashful and not breaking the news to the public, Sony shied away from the notion of telling the games industry, or for that matter the public, that PS4 cross-play has exited its beta phase.

Instead, the publication site broke the news in a peculiar way at the bottom of the article that Sony is working on cross-play support as detailed below:

“PlayStation Now improvements aren’t even the only move Sony is making, despite handily winning the sales battle this console generation. While it’s not announcing the news explicitly, the PS4’s cross-play efforts have officially moved out of the beta stage, meaning that the console can support cross-play on any titles that studios provide the functionality for.”

If you don’t know, ever since late 2018, titles like Rocket League, Paladins, and Smite have enabled cross-play on PS4, allowing owners to play against other people on different platforms one day as per engadget.com:

“Over the last 12 months, games such as Rocket League, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Dauntless, Paladins, Smite and Realm Royale have enabled PS4 cross-play with other consoles. Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to face off against their PS4 buddies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare later this month too. Some other games — including Disc Jam, EVE: Valkyrie, Final Fantasy XIV and Street Fighter V — let PS4 and PC gamers play those titles with each other.”

The interview between SIE CEO Jim Ryan and website wired.com went up on the same day as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds‘ update that enables cross-play between PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Lastly, this means that the battle royale game lets PS4 gamers play with others. However, if you have a PS4 and you want to team up with a friend on Xbox One, it’s not possible right now notes gamesindustry.biz.
