BlizzCon 2019 kicked off today by attempting to mitigate their human rights violation with an apology from J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. Few buying that the company is legitimately remorseful for their actions. Calling the apology the bare minimal they had to do for damage control as they prepare several major announcements aimed to please investors.

Brack stated…

“Blizzard had the opportunity to bring the world together in a tough Hearthstone esports moment about a month ago and we did not. We moved too quickly in our decision-making and then, to make matters worse, we were too slow to talk with all of you. We didn’t live up to the high standards that we really set for ourselves. I’m sorry and I accept accountability.”

Keep very much in mind where  Blizzard was slow to respond to the rest of the world, they were very quick to issue their statement promising to defend the Pride of China.

Furthermore, few issues have unified so many from a variety of walks of life as the Blitzchung Human Rights Violation and the Free Hong Kong Movement. People around the world from North America to South America all the way to Europe and even in China’s backyard stand in solidarity with Hong Kong’s quest for self determination and democratic rights. The only ones who are not part of this growing unity are China and corporations like Activision/Blizzard who seek to profit from access to Chinese Markets.

Few are fooling themselves over the faux apology nor tolerating it. In the short time videos have been available, they have received a significant number of downvotes and a minute amount of upvotes. Voting has been generous compared to the comment sections, which have taken to roasting the company for their blatant hypocrisy  and fraudulent apology.

Naturally Blizzard is not going to heed what human rights activists have demanded from the company, nor are they going to offer compensation for what has befallen not just Blitzchung, but also the American University Team alongside numerous players  who have since been banned for standing in solidarity with Hong Kong. The company is going to continue to toe the Chinese government’s line and gamers see that clear as day.

At this juncture gamers might as well just go watch the South Park apology video. It at the very least had some sincerity.
