NetherRealm Studios announced that Sindel would be rejoining the cast in Mortal Kombat 11 as a DLC character after encountering a violent fate in Mortal Kombat 9. Sindel’s return, however, is not being orchestrated without furthering begriming the devilish dame’s backstory.
Fans managed to get a look at Sindel’s biography from Mortal Kombat 11 leading up to her early access debut for those who purchased the season pass on November 26th. The character will be available for everyone to purchase as standalone DLC starting December 3rd, 2019.
YouTuber Tristan from Nerdette’s Newsstand did a video covering the biography, which you can check out below.
At around the two minute mark we get a glimpse at the notice for Sindel, which reveals her biography for Mortal Kombat 11, where they retcon her backstory and make her a disloyal adulteress concerned with keeping her “privileged position”.
You can see a snapshot of the screen below, shared by Nick.
If you’re unable to view the image or the text therein, it reads…
“Early Access for Sindel begins on November 26. The former Queen of Edenia will stop at nothing to keep her place. When threatened with the loss of her throne when Shao Kahn conquered her realm, Sindel betrayed her husband, and her people, to keep her privileged position. Now Shao Kahn’s wife and queen of Outworld, she enjoys power and wealth beyond most people’s imagination. Good luck to anyone who tries to take it from her. Kombat Pack owners will also get the Klassic Cassie skin and Gothic Horror Skin Pack. Sindel will be available for standalone purchase starting December 3.”
As pointed out by Tristan, this is entirely antipodes to Sindel’s story in the previous Mortal Kombat outing where she last appeared.
If you read her actual biography from Mortal Kombat 9 it reveals things were a lot more complicated than how NetherRealm is trying to portray her. You can read her original biography from Mortal Kombat 9 below, which depicts her as a caring mother and loyal wife who set up a protective barrier for Earthrealm before committing suicide instead of becoming the wife of Shao Kahn.
Shao Kahn, with the help of the dark magician Quan’Chi, managed to intercept Sindel’s soul and resurrect her as an evil incarnation of her former self. The evil Sindel became loyal to Shao Kahn and helped him rule Outworld.
So now they’re giving the bad guys the typical Liberal talking points that you see plastered all over Twitter and fake news media articles. They also removed any hints about her becoming a mental slave to Shao Kahn’s will, opting instead to make it where she was disloyal from the start, which really diminishes the layers of her character arc that was told over the course of the sixth-gen and seventh-gen games.
It’s pretty disgusting how much Mortal Kombat has been co-opted to push for propaganda by its own developers!
It’s a crying shame for sure, but the Mortal Kombat of old that you once loved is no more.
