If you were expecting the original Southeast Asia version of Honkai Impact 3rd for its PC release, you were expecting too much. PC gamers have been netted with the gimped global version of the game (which is very similar to the Chinese version), insofar that the censorship that plagued miHoYo Studio’s mobile outing has made its way into the PC version as well.
Some people were excited about being able to play the Tencent-hosted title on their desktop PC or on the go with a laptop. There was some chatter that the game would likely still be censored on PC when it did release, and those who chattered about such a possibility turned out to be prescient.
One user informed One Angry Gamer that the game no longer has the touching feature that was present in the SEA version. Back in late March of 2018 there was a Reddit post asking about said feature, and it was explained that in the global English version of the mobile game they removed the ability to touch and interact with the girls. The touch feature was not unlike Intimacy Mode in Senran Kagura games, where the girls would react to being touched and make some comments.
YouTuber onemeshnig did a quick minute and a half long video comparing the global version to the SEA version, which you can check out below.
In the comment section they joked that the global version’s females acted like “dead fish” in comparison to the SEA version.
They’re not wrong, though.
If you look at the video from AP, you can see 10 minutes worth of the interactions and touching features that are present in the original version of the game. These have been removed from the global PC release of Honkai Impact 3rd.
The other change is that the costume censorship has carried over from the global mobile version to the global PC version.
For those of you unfamiliar, back in May of 2018 there was a user on Reddit who lamented the censorship of Mei and her outfits.
You can see what her original Crimson Impulse outfit was supposed to look like and what it looks like after the censorship.
The censored outfit is what’s featured in the PC version of Honkai Impact 3rd.
It features a mesh layer to cover up her cleavage as well as mesh spats to cover part of her lower pelvic region. Previously she was sporting a high-cut leotard, giving you just enough room to let the imagination run wild. But now she’s dressed in a far more boring and passe way.
The censorship of Mei and the other girls’ costumes has been present since around 2017. Also, they unfortunately spread the censorship of said outfits to all versions of the game. You can see a demonstration of Mei’s censored outfit from the Chinese version in a video that was uploaded back in April of 2018 by YouTuber Giulio.
While it doesn’t appear as if any new censorship was added, it’s still disappointing that the old censorship is still ever-present in the PC release of Honkai Impact 3rd.
The game is available right now over on the official miHoYo website.
