Ip Man 4 Trailer Preps For U.S. Theatrical Release On December 25th

It only took a decade but the showdown between two of this generation’s greatest martial arts movie stars is finally happening in Well Go USA Entertainment’s Ip Man 4, and it’s set to hit U.S., theaters on December 25th, 2019.

The U.S., theatrical release of the highly anticipated film was dropped on December 19th, 2019 by Well Go USA Entertainment, and already it’s managed to garner more than 6 million views on YouTube thanks to martial arts movie fans getting a teasing taste of a showdown that’s been years in the making.

You can check out the trailer below, which clocks in at just under two minutes.

The theme of the movie centers around the contention between the Chinese traditionalists and Bruce Lee’s attempts to broaden the spread of kung-fu outside of Asia. Ip Man travels to California during 1964 to teach martial arts to Westerners, but he encounters opposition from both the East and the West.

The movie looks like it takes on various layers of the debate surrounding teaching kung fu outside of China, giving viewers the perspective of those wishing to keep their culture within their culture, and those who feel as if that culture is inferior to Western standards.

Ip Man 4 - Scott Adkins

The highlight of the trailer – in spite of the poor choice of song for the film – is that Scott Adkins plays an intimidating, U.S., military drill instructor who is also a martial arts practitioner. While he’s not quite Yuri Boyka’s level of badass he’s definitely putting on a determined and unrelenting villain’s face that gives the impression that the final fight between Yen and Adkins will be well worth the watch.

It’s also quite interesting that Well Go USA seems to think that there’s some money to be made on this match-up, which is why they opted to put this film in theaters for a limited release instead of having it go straight to DVD.

If you’re in the neighborhood of a chain playing the flick, you can look for it to arrive in theaters starting December 25th, 2019.
