Riot Games To Pay Out $10 Million Gender Discrimination Lawsuit Settlement

Back in August of 2019, Riot Games announced that they had reached a settlement agreement with the feminists who alleged that they were discriminated against while working at Riot Games. At the time, the details of the settlement weren’t made public, but now they are, and Riot has to pay out $10 million.

According to the Los Angeles Times, 1,000 women who worked with Riot Games from November, 2014 up until the settlement finalizes, will be paid out from the $10 million pot.

The wording in the Los Angeles Times article is interesting, though. They write…

“The final dollar amount that each employee who self-identifies as female receives will vary depending on how long they worked for Riot, with full employees receiving more than contractors.”

“Self-identifies as female”? Does that mean any and every dude who sloppily puts on lipstick, a wig, and a barrel-bodied dress and asks to be called “ma’am” can grab a piece of the pie? Because if so, oh boy will a lot of non-biologically-born females get in on that $10 million action.

If you think the $10 million is a lot, though, don’t. As noted in the article, they racked up $1.4 billion in revenue for Tencent, their parent company, in 2018.

As part of the settlement, Riot has also reorganized the corporate structure of the business and hired in a Diversity & Inclusivity Officer, as well as started mandatory diversity and anti-bias training for all their staff.

This all spawns from an expose on the company that alleged that they discriminated against their female employees and that the females were subjected to sexual harassment.

Since then, Riot has been trying to make amends for their supposed egregious behavior, resulting in the company openly discriminating against straight males, supporting sexism against men, and punishing e-sports teams that they believe were discriminating against female e-sports players who weren’t as good as the male teams.
