Capcom has revealed Seth, one of the boss characters from Street Fighter IV, as a gender-swapped rendition for his (or her?) appearance in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. I don’t know why exactly the character is now a woman… but he (it?) is.
The revelation came during this year”s Capcom Cup 2019 tournament, where the publisher rolled out the two minute long video trailer featuring the metallic looking boss character with an orb in the center of its body transforming from the traditional male visage to one of a more feminine nature, complete with long flowing black hair. You can check it out below.
Many of Seth’s moves have stayed the same, but they’ve also added and changed around the way Seth moves, implementing more feminine twirls and high kick transitions to compliment the new form factor.
Now for those of you who aren’t into the whole gender-swapping thing, there is an option to play as the classic Seth skin from Street Fighter IV, and he even comes in different colors.
However, I’m sure the bigger question is: why is Seth now a woman?
I honestly don’t have the answer to that but I’m sure it’ll be explained in Seth’s story mode content.
EDIT: So there’s a press release that details why Seth is now a hot chick. Capcom explained…
“After Seth’s demise in that past appearance, part of the intelligence survived and the remnants of the biological brain have been paired with a new physical form in Champion Edition. Always seeking new data from the fiercest fighters in the world, Seth has the ability to steal moves and use them against an opponent. That means players who go up against Seth should plan accordingly and expect to get a taste of their own medicine.”
I guess that explains it all.
Out of the five available costumes only one is labeled as the “Nostalgia” costume, which features Seth as a man. The others are all Seth as a female.
I get the feeling some section of Twitter is going to take this as Capcom saying “Trans rights!” and extrapolate this into some sort of embarrassing and cringe-worthy social media campaign, and anyone who doesn’t bow down to them will be castigated, quote-tweeted, and shamed.
You can look for Seth to arrive in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition come February 14th, 2020 for the PS4 and PC for $29.99.
