Weird West, Isometric Dark-Fantasy Western Game Coming Soon To Steam

Wolfeye Studios had announced before that their new title would debut during Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards this year and they didn’t disappoint. Well, as far as keeping to their promise. Whether or not you find the game enticing or disappointing is entirely up to your gaming preferences, but it’s definitely an oddball out when compared to everything else that was on display last night.

Wolfeye’s Weird West is an isometric, fantasy Western game. Yes, it takes place during the Wild West era, but there’s a little bit of a supernatural twist to it, not unlike Creative Forge Games’ 2015 outing, Hard West.

You can check out the debut trailer for Weird West below, courtesy of IGN.

We don’t really get much in the way of details on the gameplay or the motivations behind the player’s actions, but we do learn that apparently wherever the game takes place it’s in some sort of alternate dimension where demons and massacres and sacrifices are taking place, beyond the realm of civilized law and urban life.

The isometric action-RPG apparently contains physics-based destruction and ragdoll deaths aplenty, along with a collection of period based weapons and supernatural entities.

The trailer appears to showcases a day and night system and matching real-time weather effects. A Diablo style game that was a little more methodical and projectile-based could be pretty cool, especially if enemies and players aren’t bullet sponges. But a lot of it will boil down to how the gunfights play out and what sort of defensive measures will be at the player’s disposal to avoid dying once the bullets start flying.

I don’t know what to think of Weird West right now, but I guess we’ll have to keep an eye on it for now until more information is made available.

With Devolver Digital at the publishing helm expect it to arrive on home consoles in addition to launching on PC. For now, though, you can wishlist the game over on the Steam store page.
