Kenji Hiruta Wants To Make A Sequel To Skies Of Arcadia, Sends Fan Requests To Sega

Skies of Arcadia is an RPG developed by Overworks and published by Sega in 2000, which later landed on the GameCube in 2002. Despite favorable scores from big outlets, the game never received a sequel. As of now, Kenji Hiruta wants to change that by sending all fan requests directly to Sega in hopes of a second installment.

For those unaware of Hiruta’s contributions and employment, he has worked on games such as Sakura Wars and, of course, Skies of Arcadia. This has led him to work with companies like Koei Tecmo and Sega.

And speaking of Sega, it looks like the company might have hard data to go by in that Hiruta is sending all requests and support straight to the house of Sonic.

It all started with a user on Twitter saying that one of the main devs for Skies of Arcadia was encouraging gamers and fans alike to ask Sega to bring back the JRPG, which was later backed by a tweet from Hiruta himself:

As noted above, he, Hiruta, made a follow-up tweet thanking fans for being passionate about the RPG and how he would organize all comments and send them to Sega:

Given Hiruta’s wording, the sequel hasn’t even started development yet, meaning that we may not see this title become a thing until 2023 or 2024 — assuming no complications take place.

Lastly, it’s unclear which platform Sega will release this game on, or if it will become a timed-exclusive on next-gen consoles? Will PC goers ever get the sequel, or will it be a cross-gen title?

While we wait to find out, you can learn more about Hiruta’s plan for a sequel by paying his Twitter account a visit.
